Glad I'll be dead by the time this thing shows up. Tick tock the death of the automobile as we all love it.

People are going to think this is so sick when the next m3 autonomous driving mode laps them around the ring faster than any m3 ever before.

BMW knows nothing. I want to drive, not read the paper.
If you want to read the paper get the fricking bus and leave the street for the enthusiast.
F#@k this future!
Who said anything about reading the paper, you can just hold your yoke steering wheel and keep eyes fixed on the road ahead, ready like a panther in case the algorithm has a bug

Their biggest problem for BMW, Mercedes, etc is if this future does actually take off. How can they still exist?

If I'm in a car that is an appliance that fades into the background so much that I'm not even supposed to think about it (sort of like riding the Acela). Then how do you convince me to buy a BMW? I'd just pick up the cheapest car that gets the job done and move on.

I can see that market being a gold mine for a self-driving startup or a brand like Toyota, but BMW? Can't see how it would make sense for them.
This.

I know this is all about not driving and distractedly consuming media while your transport cube moves your pre-corpse from A to B. But lets say you are actually driving with this. Does muscle memory in quick reaction/evasive situations just goes out the door because its optimizing for some different mode or some other nonsense? Meh.

Hmm doubt this will affect the 9-3 grip as you are suppose to hold a regular steering wheel, most of us already know how to turn properly with a car when holding the 9-3 grip its easy.

But what i find more disturbing is all the joints that might get flimsy and loose at one point, but then again BMW engineering usually makes things properly, although i my self am not the biggest fan of the yoke, i can see the type of consumer this yoke type is for. But as usually with BMW they will probably offer you several choices and the remove it if it ain't to popular.

True full autonomy is going to be one of those problems that's perpetually 5-10 years away unless there is a true paradigm shift in how compute is done, IMO.

BMW has plenty of time to figure it out along the way.

Does object #20 have issues with being penetrated multiple times by this robot? Or is this a mutual deal?

This site never disappoints. The massive overreaction in this thread to a steering wheel patent has made for a good morning read.

Remember the old days when bmw was a leader that other car companies tried to emulate. Now they just seem to want to copy everyone else.
