I told my GM six months ago I wanted the first one. Being in charge of the inventory also helps assure that.

Made in Mexico, not Leipsig. Will the future say "The German made M2's, now those were somethin"

I just ordered a Porsche Cayman. Due in late May 2022. I'm also first on the list at my BMW dealer for one of these but they won't be formally order-able until fall of 2022… guess I'll need to decide if I want to keep the Cayman after a summer of driving it or swap into the new M2. Wish I could afford / had space to keep both.

I find it really interesting. I don't get how you find this bad compared to the mess that happened with the M3-M4. We should be happy they didn't come up with a similar mess with the coming M2

You're right; why make a similar mess to the M3/M4 when you can make an entirely different mess with the M2?

There's nothing like a fresh, independent mess

Means nothing IMO. My MK7 Golf R was made in Germany and build quality was no better than a co-worker's mexican made MK7.5. In fact it was a little worse as my Golf R had some some paint defects on delivery.

The made in Mexico concern is a non starter.

If anything, it was confirmed that all M2 will be made in Mexico. Where do you have the Leipzig thing from?

I've had the same experience - My Golf R out of Wolfsburg is fine, and my wife's former 2015 Golf TDI out of Puebla was also screwed together just as well and was 100% trouble-free (other than that little diesel scandal thing, ahem). No sign of any lack of quality whatsoever.

That said - I don't want a BMW built in Mexico, especially not an M car. The factory is fairly new - about 2 years old. VW has been building cars down there since the '80s. And suppliers are also setting up shop down there for the first time. I just saw an Audi Q5 on BaT that was Mexican-built and the parts content was something like 68% Mexico - basically just the tranny & motor came from Europe. Can we trust all the various suppliers to be building parts to the same quality standards in new factories? I dunno.

Why do we act like Germany is some sacred land of automotive perfection? Tons of M cars have PLENTY of issues that have come out of Germany so to me this rationale make zero sense. Hell, this could be a positive move.

I understand that several 3 & 5 series car lineups have been manufactured in Mexico since 2019. The 2 series is just another feather on their cap

You ordered a Cayman and it's arriving only 4-5 months later? How?

I wasn't comparing the GR86 to the G87...otherwise why would I buy both?

The GR86 doesn't need '660 wheel' to have fun...'660 wheel' doesn't help you to go around corners, just saying

Wow. I guess m2 design peaked early. BMW is really all over the place with their design language. As ugly as the m3/m4 was you always had the trusty, reliably cool m2c. Big features, small body, still classy. Looks like those days are gone.

Why is it Lexus curvy and then boxy like a Nissan Cube, in the same car!? 😯 pick one and go with it man!
