rut roh?
I'm experiencing extremely long cranks (which is indicative of an HPFP failure, I've read...) and shuddering in 3rd gear. I just had my car serviced last week (15,000 miles) and it's an 03/08 build date. The dealer did not indicate anything was wrong with it, but I'm guessing my fuel pump is on the way out the door...
Confirmation before I part with my car for a couple days? |

i had my first long start saturday morning (about 15 seconds), then my cars revs bounced from about 500-2000rpm for a minute or two. then i got a "reduced power" warning and an engine light... but she fixed herself by sunday

I just got mine back last night from some HPFP problems. I don't have the writeup with me, but they didn't replace the fuel pump. They pushed an update prescribed by a Service Bulletin. She's running ok, but I could swear there's a decline in throttle response in all gears at all speeds, especially highway. I noticed it the day of the failure.
I had a 325iA for four days, so I was certain the 1er would feel like a rocket ship when I got her back...but it has more hesitation than the 3er did in manual mode. I'm going to give it another day or two to be certain, because I'm sure they'll tell me there's nothing wrong with it. But I'm not a happy camper. |

It almost definitely sounds like a HPFP failure. I just got mine back from the shop for a HPFP replacement. The dealer, BMW North Scottsdale in AZ had the car back to me in less than 24 hours. I couldnt be more satisfied with the service from BMW so far. I had read about the new fuel pump design, part number ending 881, and specified it to them. Sure enough I had my car back the very next day fixed with the right part, washed inside and out and running stronger than ever.

I had 13,000 miles.
Mine was not replaced but reprogrammed via SIB 12 55 06. Anyone had that approach taken? Wish I new the software number and HPFP number but they didn't tell me. |

This is certainly the achilles heel of the N54. Between all the x35i cars out there globally, I bet BMW has replaced thousands of these.
GET A HANDLE ON IT ALREADY, BMW! This is completely retarded. |
