IND | BMW M Performance Side Grille DIY
This DIY is for those of you who plan to just swap over to the M Performance black side grilles. After changing ours out we figured this to be the simplest method. **Please note you cannot purchase the gloss black piece separately**
We will post another DIY for those who plan to go with the custom painted back plate on the side grille. Available for purchase here: https://ind-distribution.com/product?sku=IND-F87-SM Time: 5-10 mins Step 1: Wiggle the Chrome trim to loosen it from the backing plate. The piece will pop right out. Step 2: On the back side of the new performance grille you will see 2 tabs to release the Gloss black trim from the matte black plate. Push the tabs to release. Step 3: Clip the Gloss black trim into the matte black trim on your car. Repeat on the other side.

custom available / great customer service
iND can do custom colors for backplate and side bar. I went with a non-textured gloss black backplate, which I'd recommend. The "non-textured" makes it look less like cheap black plastic (which it still is, but it isn't so obvious now what the trim is made from). When it arrived I was impressed with the packaging and quality of the piece.
However, the side bar was darker than I wanted. I figured I was hosed since I went custom, but Cat was really cool about it and said she'd take it back and get me a new one with a different tint. Hard to find customer service like that anymore. |

Thanks for the DIY, will be using it very soon.
Just a quick question, you mention you can just wiggle the chrome trim off however in the full side grille diy removal you pry it off. Which way do you recommend as the easiest and without damaging the trim piece please? |

I found one oem could be wiggled off. The otherneeded minor prying. My advice: If you can wiggle it off, do that; Otherwise, use pry bar. You'll need a set of prybars on hand for backplate anyway.

Just wondering if there's a supply problem with the side grille part BMWP-F87-SM? I ordered one nearly two weeks ago, and it was indicated as being in-stock, but there's been no indication that it's been shipped. I'm probably impatient but I've gotten use to in-stock parts being shipped within a day or two and not two or more weeks so I was surprised not to hear anything. Have others had faster shipping from iND?

Old thread resurrection! I presume it is much more of a challenge to remove the backing plate because it seems that it is clipped AND glued on. Any real difficulty prying it off? I guess just removing the insert is the way to go. Thanks for any advice!

Reviving an old thread, I just did mine this afternoon, and found the best way to unclip the chrome portion if you cant wiggle it loose is Dental Floss.. Slide it under the small end and gently tug out . Worked great on mine.
