Calling F31 340i owners with iDrive 5.0

Help!

My car is back at the dealers with an alarm issue. The red "Clowns Nose" under the drivers mirror has started to pulse quickly after locking, then after 10 seconds or so it settles to its normal pace.

Manual says it's on a tilt or has a window/door open.

My dealer says it isn't logging any fault, and they have no similar car to compare with.

What do your cars do?

Thanks

Rich.

I know when iv been on a ferry if you press the lock button twice it does exactly the thing you describe which turns the tilt sensor off. Wonder if it's anything to do with that?

Thanks for the thought, I've tried setting this mode and then even double tapping unlock to try and clear this... Good old Google...

Dealers technicians are at a loss... So, just wanting to know if this "feature" has manifested itself on any other similar car...

They still have my car, so I can't do further checks myself. But, I can certainly pass on information.

Working from home today, so went out to test mine and report back. F36 440i with iDrive 5, so I assume comparable but obviously not identical.

Unlock then Lock with long press to fold mirrors - normal (?) once every second or so clown nose flash.

Unlock then open window then Lock with long press to close window and fold mirrors - same as above.

Unlock then quick double press to lock and disable tilt - clown nose lit fully for a second or so (not a flash) then back to once every second flashing.

Thank you, that is to me the expected behaviour, and how my car initially behaved...

The dealer has just called, they have identified and replaced an element located in the near side rear wheel arch. Sounds like a computer element to me.

The car is undergoing re-coding now and should be available in the morning.

I will update with results and more detailed parts information tomorrow, should anybody else have a similar issue.

Turns out to be a dodgy tilt sensor. Replaced and coded now and the car is as it should be.

No rattles or creaks on the drive home.

No for a wash and some DA action...

Worth remembering.

Glad you got sorted with minimum fuss

Tilt sensor. I remember when I had a Spitfire and all I needed to maintain it was a socket set and some feeler gauges!

There will be one on your bike too. They have them so if it falls over (or you fall off!) the engine will cut.

Had one play up on a GSXR once - every time I leaned it over past 45 degrees the bloody engine cut out!! Scary stuff.

Very glad to hear it. It would have been a real pain to have to reject and reorder.
