You really think this bastardized FWD will have great driving dynamics? I'm a purist and there is nothing pure (or beautiful) with this car. FWD chassis with an AWD conversion, electronic steering, automatic transmission, multiple electronic interference with the suspension, etc. I'm pretty sure your 335 has way more dynamics than this hunchback from Munich.

The M235i has the same 0-60 as the E92 M3, so it could perhaps be worse?

As has already been said, you do need to see it in the flesh, as in pictures, it looks too Japanese (no offence to Japanese people).

That is my point. M/AMG buyers choosing their vehicle for its performance shouldn't feel at all threatened. Conversely, I can see those whom purchased their M/AMG because of the badge on the trunk feeling butt hurt because now there's one on a fwd vehicle.
there are people who bought it for the badge and some for the performance and some for both. if it's just performance you are comparing, a JDM will be a lot cheaper and at par on performance. people are different and it's up to what they value and compare
My post was a response to the arrogant M/AMG owners whom are criticizing potential buyers of this car as only shopping for a badge. Yet its they who seem to be focused on the badge.
gotcha. didn't read it that way from your comment to my earlier post.

As an aside - the A3/S3/RS3 are soooo much better looking.
That might because of the obsession with SUVs, that BMW don't offer you guys a touring.

Here in the U.K. you can't buy an M550i because too many go for the 520d.

Two words, the competition. MB and Audi both have four door subcompacts. BMW wants a piece of that market.

Wagons and Hatchbacks are not a value to the brand in North America.

People want SUV and or crossover variants.

Diesel will soon die like a dinosaur.

Every new BMW's purpose seems to be to make the LCI 7er look more attractive....

On the bright side of things, kidneys aren't bad. Wonder if they can be swapped out with the upcoming G "M3/4???

Why would they make the back so high and not at least make it a full hatchback? If you're gonna make it ugly, at least give it a functional use so that it's not a complete waste.

I wonder if they plan a Touring? (I mean á là 3 Series Touring, not the 2 Active Tourer) I mean, if you're going to compromise on FWD and 4-cyl, then a Tourer is the upside to the compromise. A 'new' 2 Touring would still be longer than my first BMW E30 3 Series Touring back in 1989:

Sadly, both myself and the BMW range have suffered somewhat from middle age spread since then: my 325i Touring above was 170.3" long and the current 2 coupé is 178.5" long. Another retrograde step is that the wipers on those headlights worked way, way better than the hopeless sprayers on my M235i.

Somehow Audi makes their smaller cars still look premium. I feel this new BMW looks more like a Toyota Corolla. Maybe they worked together on it like they did the Supra?

The Audi S3 is a great example of a compact premium sport sedan. Sometimes you can confuse it with it’s larger sibling, S4, but actually looks slightly more althetic from the side profile.

Paul's Render would have sold like hotcakes. I know I'd be out of my car for one...after 20 years.

Nice e30 touring there! I was going to comment that I think I'll stick with my e30 on historic registration for my sub-compact BMW 4 door needs

Just so we remember what a decent handling RWD 4-door sub-compact BMW used to be like (and yes, I can still fit my 2 kids in the back when I take it out on weekends).

As for diesel dying like a dinosaur - sure, but I'll likely daily drive my e92 for the next 10 years or so until an affordable electric comes out based on the styling of a lot of the new BMW models now.

Have you ever driven a Mini? They are amongst the better handling FWD cars.
