Heck I had to special order mine because they simply weren't making any M240 manuals and shipping them. Simply put, no one is beating down their doors for RWD with a I6 and manual.

Yes, the M2 gets good press, but not sure how many units sold that translates into ... I do see a lot more M4s on lots than M2s. Whether or not it translates into sales, everyone talking about wanting a M2 seems to have kept the next version of the coupe RWD - we can just hope you can still get the M240i with a B58 variant and a manual, but may just be the M2.

What I'm saying is that they can't make cars to please purists if it doesn't translate into sales. I think people would be less upset if they would have not called this a 2 at all and kept that moniker for the RWD coupe only. Honestly if you want a 4 door folks should get a 340.
The m2 has two doors. All we old geezers want us rwd with 4 doors. Yes, I know space... Yada yada. I'll be sticking with my e36.

No matter. I currently have a real M (20 years since new). I want four doors and a pseudo-M is fine if that's what it has to be in the 21st century. i know, M's are a dime a dozen these days.
I'd really prefer a Cayman GT4, but two doors, two seats, doesn't cut it; also, I'm a prudent investor and $100K is way too much to spend on a car for me, without winning the lottery.
I'm practical, I drive a Corolla with 240k miles as my daily during the winter months.

It's a shame because I think there was a real desire for a smaller 4 door to take the place of the segment that the 3 used to occupy but has grown out of, both in terms of size and price. With so much attention these days on SUVs / SAVs and away from sedans, I guess it's no surprise they didn't seem to expend a lot of effort on this one.
Had he thought about X2?

New Mazda 3? Or is that too slow. New ones are pretty impressive inside and out, and drive well, but they are a bit slow, but enough for everyday driving.

Seeing the rear more it makes less and less sense that this thing didn't have a hatchback. The other "Gran Coupes" have them and would have made a lot more sense / added practicality.

The grill in chrome looks awful / way too big. The black in the 235 looks better.

The interior actually looks pretty darn good, save for the awful digital dials. The ones in the lower spec look better, but you get a smaller infotainment display.

I think he really likes the interiors of the BMWs and once he gets his MBA from Haas, a Mazda just won't do haha

haha yeah there seem to be SO many body styles they have based on the UKL all called a 1 or 2, I can't keep up with them all. He just wants a plain old regular sedan. Honestly some of the Kia's are looking pretty good these days and should have better reliability.

See, I feel the opposite. I don’t like the blacked out grills, and much prefer the 3D metal sculpture look to the “black hole” (especially on the bigger grills, like the X7 and new 7). I also have iDrive 7 on my car and prefer the new gauges to what I had in my previous BMW’s.

Different strokes for different folks.

I agree. You have the X1 and the X2 (which competes with GLA/Q3 more than the X1 does). You have the new 1 series hatchback and then the new 1 series sedan in China. And now you have this 2 series FWD sedan (which is what it is) and a coming 2 series RWD coupe? Honestly just seems like they ran out of numbers less than 3. Why not just call this new F44 a 1 series in the U.S.?

Then again, Mercedes is confusing the hell out of me with the new A class and CLA which are the EXACT. SAME. CAR. So what the hell do I know?

That's exactly what it is.

Just like the GLA Is a jacked up hatchback.

What's the point of your post? You clearly got my point because you reiterated it with your Golf example.

I'm expressing contempt for this car. Not because I don't like Clubmans (I'm a multi-Mini owner myself), but because this is yet another way BMW's ruining its brand by doubling down on this GC stupidity with FWD.
