Hopefully they fix the offset steering wheel. I had a 228i convertible loaner and the seat was noticeably offset. Same problem in the X2 I sat in at the car show last week. My M2 doesn't have the offset problem.

One thing I don't hear mentioned in the posts above is car length. My E46 fits in my garage perfectly as does my M2. The current 3-series doesn't fit so I don't have a BMW four-door sedan option. The X2 does fit but I'm not a SUV fan. For me, the magic length is 180 inches - nothing longer than that works for me. There aren't many interesting four-door sedans that will fit in my garage: Civic R-Type, Golf R and Audi RS3 is about it.
This is exactly my point on vehicle size as well

My E82 X1, E46, and 1M are all under your max length. My prior garage couldn't fit a much longer vehicle and even though I have moved to a larger home with a bigger garage I don't want to have to put a 5 series sized 3 in my garage.

The silver lining is that the small RWD coupe and convertible will live on for another generation. If they put the S58 in the next generation M2, that's going to be a tough car not to love (especially if, as currently expected, they keep the MT around for all you clutch pedal fans).
RWD lives on for the 2er in the Coupe/Cabrio only.

Why the GC is not RWD is due to its positioning in the market and its need to be competitive amongst its erstwhile competitors.
Driving dynamics is not enough in the highly contested compact segment. Whilst I do not agree with the decision. I do understand their reasons for it.

So a flagship xDrive M35i is on the cards to join other UKL based BMW models that will Be offered under the M Performance umbrella.
We see the first UKL based M Performance model later this year underneath the bonnet of the all new BMW X2 which I have been driving the current at launch top line model in Lisbon.
But under embargo at the current time.

Back to the 2er Gran Coupe. Seems it could work out rather well.

Will the 2gc have a rear bias in the awd version? My wife might consider the X3 40 since there isn't a wagon in sight, though I want her in a V90.

I cannot believe that nobody in the BMW structure can see the things differently:
"Hey, we should not compete with Mercedes or Audi FWD entrance models. Let's make a smaller 3 series with a RWD platform and AWD option, a vehicle that will put our legacy back on track and bring the smiles back on customer's face."

What an opportunity to blow in a different direction with quite some benefits. Many will jump on a such vehicle leaving Mercedes and Audi in the rear view mirror since the driving experience will be better.

I don't think that it will take customers from 3 series. Who doesn't want a 3 series doesn't want a 3 Series. and if the 2 series becomes the main seller what is wrong with that? better sell a 240i RWD GC than have the customer leaving the brand.

So many voices craving for a E46 revival, and nobody is listening. How dumb is that?

This is a sheep attitude and I blame them for it. if I will have the chance to work for BMW I will have some very gutsy moves but I can guarantee success and profits; and a proper image rehabilitation.

A GC RWD/AWD will be a wise and popular choice for so many.

Exactly - RWD is one of the main positive attributes of the brand, from a heritage and know-what-they're-doing standpoint.

The interiors of comparable Audis and Mercs are typically better...so if you have the same drivetrain option as them now, why do people buy the product again???

Exactly right on all points. We all love BMW because of their "I don't give a fuck about FWD attitude and stuck with RWD for driver experience. I even could accept that they adopted XDRIVE to compete against the biggest HP model performance cars because they stuck with RWD bad started losing the acceleration wars.. but to jump on the FWD train really ruins the brand because of what they had solidified over the years of being the brand that will ALWAYS b the Ultimate Driving machine before an Eco box. :/

If you will be so kind please elaborate, what "positioning in the market" is,
and when you talk about competitiveness with other, what actually we are talking about?
The little space provided by the lack of a shaft? Or costs? If yes, what will be the difference between an Audi FWD and a 2GC RWD?
I am just trying to understand better your statement.
Thanks.

I guess I just don't get who would prefer an Xdrive 2 series with a 4 banger over something comparative with an S in front of it from Audi with Quattro... The S cars have decent dynamics, if this drives like a fwd 3 series with no dynamics, it will be even worse than anything bmw has produced.

Which one is the FWD BMW, and which is the Pontiac Aztek?

It's really hard to distinguish between the two.

BMW, you've lost your mind and your dignity.

Makes one wonder if anyone in Munich even likes to drive?

It needs to be against the law to post any photo of the Aztek, even for the purpose of a valid comparison.

Whaaaaaaaaat??... if it’s good enough for Walter White...!!

But seriously, this 2GC could look really good (its only the heavy cladding that makes it look like the Aztec at the rear!) And I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again... fwd doesn’t necessarily mean it won’t drive well... all my pre bmw cas were fwd and some of those were great handling cars!!

My two 172.2" and 158.5" cars fit nicely in my two car garage (great when it snows heavily) with a little creative parking. Wouldn't be able to do that with a 3.

I'm sorry. I should have spelled out Gran Turismo. That shape looks more Gran Turismo than Gran Coupe.

Hmm that's to bad that it wont go RWD it would have so much potential of being BMWs "Back to kick as" small sporty sedans as before. If it comes as AWD but with RWD bias then it still might be something to go for other then that to bad then this won't be the car for me
