noisier on small throttle openings

Anyone have any idea why a diesel (mine's the 3.0) is so grumbly in the early rpm and sorts itself out maybe 500 rpm up? mine sounds quite mechanical low down but as soon as its built some boost it's pretty smooth

Cold start or when warm?

Have you had the codes read to see if there are any issues stored etc?

Can you be more specific, i.e. the rpm when it's grumbly ?

Are you talking about low revs diesel clatter on N57 engines by any chance?

I thought it was the EGR that caused the nasty low rpm/load clatter.

I'm sure mine is worse recently, but it's probably because I also drive my Mrs much more refined X4!

Yes it is. From what the OP described (grumble) I think he’s hearing something else.

EGR. Even worse after recent BMW recall, I had two replaced by them so far and apparently is normal.

Is only apparent when you sort of taking a easy, press throttle bit harder from get go and you won't notice. I'm not fun of the N57 been honest compare to previous generation of BMW 6 pot diesel engines.

I was sitting in traffic on an incline marginally steep enough that the car (F31 35D) wouldn't creep forward. With just a light touch of the accelerator to get the car moving it just sounded ever so slightly unsettled but not in a bad way. I never notice it in any other circumstance but only on the lightest of throttle applications.

Atleast it's seemingly normal though, i've had two recalls previously as well.

Mine had already had the recall done when I bought it, so I thought that was just how N57s are!

Sounds like bad mapping then if the EGR gases are disturbing the burn to that extent.

The B57 doesn't make anything like that kind of racket!
