M car Running costs

Hi all

Quick question - how do the running costs of f80s and f82s compare against standard f30s, aside from fuel? From reading here I see there's specific servicing required, bit presumably you can get a 5yr servicing package?

Thanks in advance

Service pack is £1100. Average mid 20's mpg (super unleaded). Tyres £1000 a full set. I budgeted roughly 40% more than my 335d to run my M4 CP.

Thanks for the reply. Fuel's ok as only do 6k pa, but was wondering about service cost and intervals. Seems like they require a bit more of a specialist treatment (or is that a bit of a con?!)

RIS - Running in Service due at 1200 miles. Mine is currently showing next service in 16000 miles which will be around 19000 miles. Cost should be less than £300. Servicing is variable dependant on driving style and conditions.

I don't think they are a particularly expensive car to run personally.

Barring the higher list price the other costs are in line with what you'd expect really.

If you're getting new or approved used, go for the service pack. I didn't spend anything on maintenance in 2 years.

At 6k pa I wouldn't worry about running costs, get a service pack if you want that peace of mind and tyres and fuel aren't an issue at that annual mileage rate.

Servicing is about £300 for the first service 1200 miles and around £500-600 for the second one at 16000.

I got the 5 year service pack thrown in with the deal....it's a good bargaining point if they won't move anymore on price.

MPG is about 29-30 driving sensibly on the motorway but drops to around 15mpg when you get a good stomp on. It's good on gas for such high performance.

Tyres aren't as expensive as I expected either.

Really? I know it's an old debate but I find the opposite.

If you get charged more than £280 for the second service you've been ripped off.

I think a guy got charged £1200 the other week for a service that included spark plugs. Apparently they are a 2.5 hour labour charge.

Although at 6k pa, it'll be years till you need plugs changing.

That's what I did once my mileage came down

Insurance actually reduced for the M4 over 330d.

I think this is where is gets a bit confusing.

For me there is

1. RIS
2. Minor service
3. Major service

So depending on how the individual has numbered the services themselves depends on which one is the expensive one.

As a rough guide to service cost increase, the service pack for an F3x is £525 and the Service Pack for an F8x is £1100, so reckon on doubling the service costs.

I've looked online at some used m4's and can't recall seeing the service pack menioned in the specs - is it listed if the car has it?

Hi you will most likely find the original purchaser will have included the service pack at purchase so you will receive the outstanding duration if they have included this at the point of sale.

A dealer will tell you this as its on their system.

Hope that helps

thanks - so even if the service pack's not listed as an extra on the website, the car may still have it? If it doesn't have it can you buy it for a used car?

What you MUST take into account is whether you will attend any car meets and whether you will spend time on forums like this reading about your new M3. If so, it will cost you in mods. All good fun but that's where the cost is. Things like petrol, tyres and servicing are not much more than on a 330d.

A standard M3 kept a few years is a very sensible purchase.
