Friends of my folks had just purchased a brand new 1961 black Mercury Comet. They stopped at the grocery store while the husband went in to pick up a few things while wife waited in the car. A dude parks next to her, opens his door and dings their new car. She called him on it and he said what's the big deal, your car will get dinged eventually.

After that idiot went into the store, she got out of her car and keyed both sides of his car.

It worked as they had a fresh batch of them. Got me an adjustable stand too. Tbh they were sat there as many people were happy with their bricks. Sentimental value of sorts. My colleague said hers had been with her to Winterpeg in Canada and travelled with it to Europe too so she was attached to it.

We keep a pile of well-used and tired notebooks around. Anyone who breaks their computer is obviously careless, and gets a junker as a replacement until they can show that they can take care of a newer machine.

Many years ago, I had a colleague in the PC shop who kept a collection of the grungiest working keyboards/mice that he could scavenge during computer upgrades. If someone spilled coffee into their keyboard, the one that they received in exchange was not an upgrade.

Many years ago, I dropped my work IBM Thinkpad X61 down a flight of concrete stairs while using it to program a network switch stack in a basement. They replaced it with a brand new monster-sized T-series, which was too big to use as a portable. I actually bought a used X61 on eBay out of my own pocket and transferred the SSD over from the smashed one. The T-series has been sitting in the carrying case for years, and still has an old version of Windows 7 that hasn't been updated in years. Lowest mileage computer at work, since I probably didn't even run it for 5 hours total.....

Oh boy. I had a colleague who left this year and he was forever spilling coffee on the keyboard and himself. I even checked with HR and they said he was medically cleared. Nothing saying he had motor problems. The floor was coffee stained in that office. Every morning without fail he forgot it was hot. :

Ha, a friend of mine got into a full-on fist fight with someone who did the same thing to him. The asshole also called his car a rice rocket, so there was extra incentive to kick his ass. Even though the car really was a rice rocket

Haha, do ALL IT departments do this? My IT guy likes me, so i actually don’t get the junker despite his repeated threats to do this to me. In fairness, i deserve it - i once cracked a screen within an hour of getting the new laptop

I posted this now because I’m leaning towards him being a newbie who is not shy and familiar with forums. This was not meant to out a reincarnated banned member. I keep in touch with our dearly departed and it’s none of them.

I confess to being a long time lurker who never joined due to a controlling employer. The firm had a strict policy on zero social media and it was in my contract. Reputation was everything to them and they weren't even a government department but had ways of finding out. When I left the law firm I created an account on here because fuck you. I moved from LA to Utah and started my own firm with some of the partners who had had enough as well.

My username refers to bar. As in law.

Being a lurker you get to see some personalities and it might come across a bit creepy as it's like you know a bit about them but they don't know you.. when someone stops posting even if you have never met you miss their forum presence as their posts might have brightened up your day.. it's not easy to keep up though as at one point I had so many cases I didn't even get to lurk for a year.. I came back and there were so many new profiles. Even I found myself hoping that some of those new members might be old timers in disguise. Watching from the side lines seen people come and go.

My friends tell me I am a calming guy to be around. I can relate to a lot of people in life and around here. Twice divorced. The first one was mentally ill. Second one I blame my job.. the hours meant I was not around.. third time lucky you never know.

I think it's a nice community here. If you'll have me I'd like to stay a part of it. I will try ease off resurrecting old threads I never got to join because that hasn't done me any favors.. and may be make new ones of my own. There it is. That's me. Group hug?!

I thought it was really weird when you asked Lups how her marriage was going. That had me sure you were reincarnated. I'm still waiting for her to reappear and respond. That will be popcorn worthy.
