New to forum Quick ??s

Ok thanks for answering my last question now i have couple new ones....

1.First off how often do you guys turn the DTC off and is there a way to program it so that it is always off.

2.Guy at BMW told me that everytime i turn it off or hit red line in registers it to the computer and my KEY? and they can void my warranty for doing so.

3. If this is true how do you guys get around it?

1. Can I install the the JB3 on a completely stock car with no supporting mods. I have a 2007 btw.
yes

2. Does everyone remove it before taking it in for service?
you definetely need to remove it.

3. If there is a post or website explaining all of this thats not the actual jb3 website can someone just give me that instead. Thanks!!
Use the search lots of info on JB3 or go to N54tech.com

agreee with most of the above except i never bother to take my JB3 out when i go to the dealer:
1/ put the JB3 on the STOCK map
2/ regardless of map, the JB3 is invisible to BMW computer.
3/ do a neat job with JB3 install and no one will know anything - it is hidden in the ecu box.
4/ only time i would take out my JB3 is for a mojor problem that needs to be covered under warantee Like: fuel pump, turbos, etc.

i have done this for over a year and a half
my 2 cents

The risk of leaving it in is the possibility of the mod being discovered. If that occurs, your car can be flagged and any remaining engine warranty could very well be gone.

If your warranty has run out or you don't care about your warranty, go ahead and take midlife's advice.

Why take the chance?

Exactly, why take a chance at all when you can be absolute by removing the tune. You would slap yourself in your dingaling if you happen to get caught and say 'If only I had..'

I don't think there is any way to keep DTC off permanently.

This is the first time I have heard that they can void your warranty for turning DTC off.

Perhaps the BMW rep meant over revving past redline can void your warranty if it results in engine damage....that seems more likely.

Gotta wonder why driving around without DTC on would hurt the car?

hold the button down for 5 seconds, you must repeat this every time you restart the car

Bouncing off the rev-limiter a few times will not void your warranty...
only if you mis-shift, over-rev the engine and cause damage.

Do not leave your tune on when you take it to the dealership. Even if you are just going in for an oil change. God forbid something happens at the dealership after they start your car and you throw a code because just that one time your engine, fuel pump, etc.. happened to act up.

IMO, I wouldn't take the chance. Then again, I don't make nearly the salary some of you do and couldn't afford to lose my warranty.

is it even possible to over rev? the ECU surely cuts the power straight away if you go over the limiter.

Ever seen somebody try to hit 4th gear and they engage 2nd?
Better be quick on the clutch or get ready to replace some parts

There is some snapshot data stored in your key, but its kinda moot point when it comes to warranty voiding activities... because the data is also stored in the car... storing in the key just for convenience...

The redline is there for a reason. It means you can SAFELY rev your car to that rpm. No way a dealer can void you for leaving the DTC off, disabling the DSC.Thats why they give you the option to disable it.Remember its the ULTIMATE DRIVING MACHINE!
