Extended warranty -- Need to buy for 2014 X5
My wife's X5 is almost out of warranty. It has been a great car so she's decided to keep another year or two.
She went to the local dealer and they quickly quoted her $5k - $8k for 2 more years. Seems insane. Where is the best extended warranty right now? FYI her X5 is a 2014 Xdrive 3.0 with 32,000 miles on it. Thanks! |

Are you open to buying a 3rd party warranty? Some forum members have had good luck with CNA - contact PAX5 who has experience with claims or member jiggz who recently bought it for his E70.

Would prefer keeping it with BMW and would pay a bit of premium but what they are asking is ridiculous. $1150 for maintenance only in the first year. (5th year of car at 32k miles) -- that's an expensive oil change!!

I'm in the same boat, OP. I'm at 46,500 miles and the wife said she wants to keep it as opposed to us trading it in for a 2016 or 2017. Realize that you can buy the warranty from any dealership in the US, so you can absolutely shop around.
Who do you talk to? The finance director on the used car side? |

Just starting the process so will let you know how it goes but our first attempt with the sales side was a complete joke. But.... they want to deter you from extending and buy a new car. |

I am looking now, I have 2014 X5 s drive. I have been quoted $6400 for 3 year extended platinum plan and extended maintenance 3 years $3600.
I have contacted two other dealers and both said to e-mail my information and they would get back to me. I have decided even that I love this car but, I am going to look around at different brands. |

Is the warranty through the dealer actually via BMW?
When we had our XC90 and purchased through the Volvo dealership, it was still third-party (National Warranty in our case). I didn't think any manufacturer offered extended factory warranties. Def good to know if that's changed.

Extended warranty=waste of money. Take that $ and put it in the cookie jar to use for repairs that would have been covered under the extended warranty, bet you'll be money ahead. Extended maintenance contract, which I purchased for $2800 for a total of 7years/125K miles I feel is a value, if you keep the vehicle. I just turned 70K on mine and plan on taking it to 200K like I did on my trouble free 2004 4.4

I know it only takes one large issues, for example with the sunroof, for you to be out thousands of dollars. Add one more issue on top of that, for example the A/C, and it's time to dump it. I have two options: get the extended warranty and keep the car until the warranty runs out, or sell the car now and trade it in for another SUV. I have roughly 3,500 miles to think about that. |

BMW Canada, as per July no longer offers the 3 yr warranty. MRSP 1 yr $3600, 2yr $10,000. I have simply traded in for new MY based on my math with various rebates and other factors.

I'm on the same boat and just went to the dealer today for the quotations.
They offered platinum 2 yrs, upto 75k miles for $4,700, gold for $4,300. For the $400 difference, platinum is a no brainer. |

FWIW, I paid $3414 for a 72 months /100,000 mile extended warranty from Fidelity Warranty Services when I got my used 50i with 8k miles on it. $100 deductible, platinum coverage. Dealer sold it to me, they said it was cheaper getting it at the time of purchase, which it looks like it, but there's the inherit risk of totaling the car so you never get to use it.

I had a 3rd party extended warranty on my last BMW (135i). I worked out great for me. It almost paid for itself in the repairs I had to have done and I was able to use it as a selling point when I sold the car since it was transferable. I got it through the dealer when I purchased the car.
I would not suggest owning a BMW without a warranty...you hear lots of horror stories about small things being $$$. You could check with your bank or CU if you still have a loan on it, they might offer a 3rd party option.

My SA told me they work with them a lot...no issues getting claims paid. I have no worries when/if the time arises.
