BMW has their reasons to do this and think it is all about the competiton. The price of the car is really important becuase they have to make it last (along with some small year upon year increases) for the life of the car, which will be about 6 years. No one can judge the economy accurately 1 year out, let alone 6. That being said I do think it is a disservice to many folks who are considering the M3 but have already neeeded to or will soon need to make definitive decisions about their next car or next lease, etc. Without a price most simply will not make a decision (obviously). I'm sure BMW believes that the small pool of folks adversely affected, as well as all of us hardcore enthusiasts who simply really want to know right now, do not represent a large enough sample to feel obligated to our curiousity/anxiousness/desires. You are talking about a half year or so of folks vs 6 years, maybe 8% of the total lifespan buying population.

As much as it sounds like I am defending BMWs ways they still really do piss me off. It makes no sense how folks can be driving the car all around the world and we don't even know our price - IN THE LARGEST M3 market in the world. It helps to keep me from getting too worked up about it when I realize they are in all liklihood behaving in a perfectly capitalistic fashion that is best for them in the long term.

Around 25k...Not only did he lose his 5k down payment, he also still had to make payments on a car he wasnt driving...

Sorry to burst your bubble...
You are right insurance gives you "Fair" market value for your car, not what you payed for it. However, if he wasn't at fault, and if he was somehow injured he could have gone to a lawyer to get a nice (Tax Free) paycheck from the other insurance company. That's what I did when I had mine.

But I don't know the circumstances of the accident.

Navy Federal Credit Union seems to have decent rates. I got 3.5% for my new Offroad Xterra and am planning on a big chunk for the M.

This is totally off topic, but is there a way to know at what $$ level auto loans decrease ones FICO score? I plan on buying a house in the next couple of years and am thinking 60K in loans may not help the process. I could pay cash for the car but figured on just leaving it in the money market?

Your cash flow and savings are weighed in by the mortgage company, but really, it's the unsecured debt (credit cards, etc) that blow your FICO score out of the water. Get a report, clean them up. Remember, having loans and paying them back on time increases your credit score over "Mr. Cash Only" since you have a track record. As long as you pay your debts regularly and don't go over the magic debt/income ratios you'll generally be fine. Those debt ratios are measured by cash flow rather than absolute debt -- $1000 a month with 12 months left to go vs $1000 a month with 48 months left to go is not that different as far as the mortgage company is concerned.

BTW, someone stated earlier that the dealer in Utah said expect 75k loaded but before taxes.......if that is true, I won't pay it. Ridiculous, not about what I can afford, but about the concept of paying 30k more for the M3 over what I paid for my 335i is just insulting. At that point, I will just spend the 115k or so and get me a Black Series car from MB or the GTR. I would literally laugh at the prospect of spending 80k on an M3......

For those who will finance 60-84 months, you might check out Keesler FCU. 5.2% with auto payments. If you are stationed overseas and a KFCU member already, this will drop to 4.5%, qualified of course. This is the absolute lowest I have found since I am financing 100%.

Yes, but they have specific criteria for membership that not all of us meet.

Penfed is down to 4.99, and if I remember correctly, you can join some sort of military support association to join it.

it really depends. How confident are you that the money market fund will stay above the 3.5% for the full 3 years? if you're 100% sure it will then you would want to finance 100% and earn the spread of 1.6% for the 3 years.

it gets trickier if you are unsure what the prevailing mm rate will be over the 3years.

I've used Pentagon Federal Credit Union to finance my 2005 E46 M3. At the time they had better rates than Navy Federal Credit Union.

I also plan to pay 50% cash and 50% finance.
