Thanks! And it is not a bad car at all. Comfortable roomy fast and full of tech . Then again I'm a heretic to be burned at stake for returning my m2 and going to this!
Exactly, lol. M's are not all they're cracked up to be... I grew tired my M3 pretty fast and couldn't wait for my lease to be up. I'm enjoying my M340 much more so far. It's got all the good qualities without the bad. I considered an M235 but needed a larger car. Enjoy!!

Did you trade or sell your M2 for it?

It kinda looks like one...

Saw the new 2 series in person the other day, and I think it might be worse in person than it is online.

Wonder what made you dislike your M3 towards the end?

I think the platform was aimed more at non BMW (hardcore) fans giving the S3, golf r and A35 peeps an alternative and maybe also targeting the 2 series and 3 series buyers..

I must admit I was sceptical about owning a BMW with the new platform but it made sense after taking my M135i for a test drive.

The M235i I'm not a big fan of the rear end but it does look good.. when it gets going..

Who can complain when you're getting these goodies at a fairly reasonable price.

B48 engine with a bigger turbo, strengthen pistons, conrods and bigger main barings
Upgraded cooling
M specific tuning
M sports brakes
M sports seats
M sport exhaust
M aerodynamics
M suspension
Or maybe just everything is labeled as M lately but I like it.

If I was to nitpick I would prefer the AWD to send a little more power to the rear rather than the 50/50 split.

It wasn't even at the end, it was from early on that I noticed it was a tiring car to drive. You always had to keep on it... I'll explain. Parking was a pain. If you lost momentum it would nearly stop, if you tapped the gas to get it into creep mode, it might lurch faster and more than you wanted to you needed to go from a tap on the gas to break right away to not hit the car or pole in from of you. Over and over this gets exhausting.

The same problem presents in stop and go traffic as well. It was also hard to get it going from a stop. Yes, its fast, no doubt, but it took a lot of effort and noise to get going.

Sometime when pulling into a parking space, it would decide to downshift from second to first, but it would blip the throttle which would lurch you forward, again, cause an uneasy feeling of fighting to keep the car contained.

It was just simply a tiring car to drive day to day normally. There were other things too. The handling was really not all that great for all you hear about the M3. The rear seemed very soft at speed and dips in the freeway or on transition ramps really upset the car more than they should (my previously modified 335s did better). The front suspension was very soft, I was scraping it coming off the back side of a speed bump, unless coming to a near crawl. I blame that on the programming of the suspension, but it did this even on sport plus setting which should have been stiff as a brick.

There is more but Im tired of typing, lol. It was great car in many ways, but not a great car for me overall. Certainly not worth the $91k I paid for it.

Anyway the problem is not the platform, nowadays Bmw offers 2 tons suv with 7 seats, hybrid/electric motors, 4 wheels drive and whatever, a FWD 4 cylinders is not the end of the world.
The problem is that ugliness.

The coupe will remain RWD. Convertible will be axed after the current generation production cycle ends.

I just don't get in the hate bandwagon surrounding this car.

I have to weight in about the ugliness factor. My 1M was purposeful looking but not all that elegant like E36 or E46 series coupes. BUT when enjoying it I did not see the sheet metal when enjoying it or spend hours gazing at it. Form follows function. My little monster 1M's function was to go like stink, go to the track and get sideways occasionally not to look pretty. The 2Gc'c function is to be fun to drive, toss-able, while moving people and items. Emphasize fun to drive. I loved the 235 coups but also have a grandson and a car seat plus a 13 year old grandson and a garden. A small 4 door car fits my life. We should all be glad BMW choose to make a car that works for us. I chose to still buy a BMW because I know their engineering, build quality, attention to detail and fun factor are there. I was looking at other makes before this car came . BMW keeps making their cars bigger and bigger and I don't want a big car. This car is the right size. It is only 1 inch longer than my 2002 E46 M3 and that's big enough for me. The 3 used to be the entry level car and I'm glad BMW still provides a car like that. I promise not to come to your forums and tell you what I really thing of the new 3 series or the crossovers or SUV's. That would be a waste of both our time.

A G20 335i with this engine would have been priced about the same, would be on the better chassis, would provide more space and road composure. It would have been 10 times less expensive to develop and market. It would not be so controversial and it would translate the BMW virtues much better.

Man I bet the exec team at BMW are wishing they'd come to the bimmerpost forums before launching the 2GC so that they could benefit from your strategic automotive design advice.

The 2GC is what it is, haters will always hate but those who can appreciate a car for what it is rather than what they think it should or could be will quietly make their choices and vote with their wallets.

It's not every bodies cuppa tea but it's continuously growing on me since I got it. I never liked look initially then seen it in person and f****** loved it. Ye either like it or ye don't I suppose. Personal choice at the end of the day.

Who cares just enjoy whatever you can roam in.

I don't hate the 2GC, it's just massive expensive for not being a BMW.

What a load of BS!

The self appointed Bimmerpost experts and "Pontiffs" never cease to amaze me:
