40i = ~350hp
50i = ~450hp or ~530hp depending on engine variant
60i = ~600hp
I'll add on to this to say:

28i = Base FWD 4-cyl (X1, X2, 1, FWD 2)
30i = Base RWD 4-cyl (X3, X4, RWD 2, 3, 4, 5)
35i = Upgraded FWD 4-cyl (X1, X2, 1, FWD 2)
40i = Upgraded RWD 4-cyl (X3, X4, RWD 2, 3, 4, 5), ALSO Base RWD 4-cyl (X5, X6, X7, 7, 8)
50i = V8 (X5, X6, X7, 5, 7, 8)

So basically each series has 2 engine options, the base and the upgrade (I'm not counting M cars here for obvious reasons). The only current exception seems to be the 5 series with 530i, 540i, and M550i engine options.

They needed a car in this segment. They should have come out with it YEARS ago, and brought the 1-Series sedan over here. But whatever, we finally have something comparable, and that's a good thing. If you don't like FWD-based cars, congrats - I'm going to let you in on a secret people seem to forget on this site daily. Ready? Here it is: THE EXISTENCE OF THIS CAR IS NOT STOPPING YOU FROM CONTINUING TO GET THE BIGGER, MORE EXPENSIVE, REAR DRIVE BASED BMW's. You were never the target audience for the 2GC, CLA, A-class, A3, etc. It's at least as good looking as those cars, if not better, and will drive fine for what it is. We have chastised BMW for years for all the micro niches they've tried filling, but that's not the case here. This is a big market. It needed filling. It is absolutely ridiculous to expect BMW to miss out on their cut of 6000 sales per month, especially since almost every one of them would come at the expense of their two primary competitors in Audi and Mercedes. Every single 2GC they sell is an A3 or CLA/A-class that DIDN'T sell. So get down off your moral high horses.
Well said, and I'd add to that for every "enthusiast" who SAYS they won't buy this car because it's FWD, no I6, no manual, etc. (that wouldn't have actually bought it if they did make with said items) there are 10 people who WILL buy it because of the increased interior room / better fuel economy / lower price that this setup enables.

If reports are the be believed, we still have these things coming up in the "drift machine" albeit with just 2 doors. If you really want / need 4 doors with RWD, gt a 340.
People will buy this for badge only!

I think it's way past the time we as a BMW community understand that BMW is not out here trying to make newer, better M bred cars with motorsports heritage only or anymore. They are a car manufacturer first, car enthusiast definitely second.

With that said, there's a reason for all these diluted cars - because they sell... for example, my wife's BMW x1 was purchased for 36k OTD. is it a great BMW? does it follow my E46 non m which was purchased for 42k OTD in 2000? Or does it seem similar to my E60 550i which had an MSRP of over 72k new in 2008? How about compared to my F82 m4, which cost exactly double or more? HELL No. But it sure seemed like a better car than Lexus NX, Subaru Forester Sport, Toyota RAV 4 Limited, Honda CRV.. etc etc

These introductory cars are great for what they are - commuters, groceries, baby transporters. They are still above and beyond the competition if optioned low. Once you start selecting all the options, adding bigger engines, AWD, Sport package bumpers, LED lights etc etc etc, then it becomes not worth it. But a bare bone optioned BMW will compete and sell well - just look at the numbers of these budget models being introduced by all luxury makers now.

TL: DR
These new econobox BMWs are just what BMW ordered, since consumers are eating them up

I'll only say positives. Those seats look bad ass. I even like the blue (I think it's lighting) on the interior doors. The rear tail lights are ok.

My gripe with the 2 series, which I have, is that it weighs as much as an 4 series. More specifically the M2 and M4. Less than 100 lbs of a difference. This car looks heavy.

It's a same fwd. I don't think BMW 4 cylinder is any better than Merc or Audi (VW).
BMW will never touch the capabilities of the A45/CLA45/GLA45 AMG's.

And BMW knows this.

I'm in the minority here. I don't think it looks bad at all. It's a 2-series...

The X5 and X7 also have three engines available (40i, 50i, M50i).

They've said definitely no. Can't fit an I6 in it. The B48 is the highest output 4 that BMW have - which put out a respectable 300 HP - but as has been mentioned in this thread, cars with the B48 are designated Mx35i.

I doubt you'll see any of the FWD variants ever badged as a M car.

This was an obvious move for BMW. Considering that direct competition, they have done well with this entry. I also like it aesthetically and would take it over either of those other two brand entries if I was an intender for an entry level premium brand 4 door. It is not intended to compare to the 3 Series...incremental sales (the profitable ones) come from taking from other brands' competitive models; substitutional sales come from within the showroom, and in this case the likely lower margin means BMW doesn't want anyone who likes the 3 Series to substitute this instead. This is an aspirational/first time BMW or additional car in a multi-car family.

Wait for the road tests to start...it will be that trio of brands.

Those seats are probably going to get carried over to the new 4er.
I like the front bumper, but the shape of the car and the headlights looks way too dorky.

I only like the bronze coloured kidneys and fender details. Other than that... yuk!

By the way, this is FWD right? Yet another reason to dislike this crap.
