nope. we have to settle for the x2.. you know.. the lifted version of this because americas and crossovers higher seating position easier to get in and out of because a majority of people are overweight and its too hard to stand up out of a sedan/hatch. blah blah blah...

it really is unfortunate because this could be a great competitor to the golf r/s3/a35

I believe you are correct, it will be the 302 hp unit taking over the 35i name plate, sadly this vehicle will be FWD based going forward as the X2 and upcoming M235i Gran Coupe.

Isn't this just what's sold as an X1 or X2 in the US?

  • Very Audi A3 Sportback tail lights
  • For everyone wondering about the grilles, its an M Performance model so this is it
  • Misano Blue launch colour
  • Worst of all though F chassis cur Hood/Bonnet lines NNOOOOOOOOO!!!!

The better to 'eat up, chew, & spit out' the competition. Actually, Audi's large mouth bass grilles swallows bigger fish.

I actually don't think that the size or shape of the grill is bad here, it fits the car quite good IMHO.

I definitely have to take one more look on the rear though. Not saying it's ugly, but it just doesn't say "BMW" to me while I'm looking at these tail lights.

Those grills are so hideous, you'd think they were a photoshop exaggerating how terrible these cars look now. WTH is BMW doing with these grills it's horrible.

No, they're SUV's/crossovers, the 1 series is a small hatchback, same as a VW Golf (GTI).

Funny, I park my GTI next to an X2 frequently (and a GLA45) and neither are much, if any taller than my VW. Even BMW includes the X1/X2 in car sales, not SUV numbers. I realize the F40 (what a crime) will be slightly smaller, but calling an X2 an SUV is like calling an Escalade a compact car.

Yeah they are just hatchback crossovers really, built on the same platform as the new 1 series, and all MINI models.

The latter two aren't sold in hatchback form in the US either. They are only available in sedan form here, which will also be the case for BMW as well (in the form of the upcoming M235i GC).

However, the Mini John Cooper Works GP will also come to the US with this drivetrain, minus the AWD. Not quite an equal to the Golf R since it will lack the AWD, rear seats (and the rear doors - although some would prefer that), but it is a hatchback in any case.

Won't the GP still be a two seater? Severely limits my interest in it.
