Fastest compact/midsize SUVs list
putting together a list of cars around the same size and weight as the X3M/X4M (So Jeep doesn't make the cut), 5 years ago never thought any of these would even exist.
So Far looks like a tie between Alfa and Mercedes for pure speed. Jaguar SVR is really disappointing given its power/weight ratio, it should be the top performer but isn't (engineering, gearing?) Personally I have issues with all of them, Alfa has a cheap interior and horrible infotainment, personally don't like the Mercedes exterior and its way overpriced, Porsche lacks the power and is overpriced compared to the rest, Jaguar really under-performs and infotainment is lacking/dated. BMW seems like it could be the sweet spot depending on what the actual tests show for performance but its also underwhelming for exterior looks and lacks some options that Ms usually get like full leather. I'm shopping this segment as well. It's worth mentioning, there will likely be a new Macan Turbo at some point next year, though if pricing follows the new 2019 base/S models there will be a $5-10K price jump...which puts them at $100K when reasonably equipped. Porsche has never been a value brand, but driving-wise the new (and current) Macan Turbo will likely be better than the X3M, so I wouldn't discount it too much based on lower power alone.
The X3M does seem like a decent value. I wasn't sold on the styling until I saw one (X3 M40i) yesterday. I do wish full leather was an option. Personally, I have no interest in the Merc, Alfa, or Jag...mainly for the reasons you've already stated.
