I'm thinking about a 323i MT, but a 325 was the only car available for a test drive. I haven't seen any of the power curves, but my calculations show 158 lb-ft at 5800, and 170 lb-ft at 3500 - about 10% less than the 325, the maximum is at a higher engine speed, though, for the smaller engine.

I would be careful about adding heavier, 18" rims, which would hurt acceleration more than the 2 or 3 lbs per tire might otherwise make you think.

Still, the car gives about 20 lb/lb-ft with driver at it's torque peak, and less than 22 at 5800, so one paper it looks like fun. I don't know where redline is for this engine. Or how good fuel economy is in the real world, is it better than the 325, which doesn't have to work so hard to move the car, or is it like the european "325" which gets really decent mileage?

Japan just got the 323i as well, seems like the rumored 323, 335 and 328 might be true.
