330i 6MT gas mileage
I've had my 330i 6MT for a week now and i'm absolutely loving it. My fears of this being my first manual transmission car have all but vanished and I'm enjoying the car more every day. I have noticed, however, that i've been getting only about 16 mpg. Most of my driving is around town, which tends to be a lot of stop sign to stop sign travel. Does 16mpg sounds low to you guys? I was wondering if it's a problem in my shifting strategy (i usually shift around 3k unless im trying to go fast, which isn't TOO often, and on long stretches i tend to cruise under 2k rpm) or if it's just the type of driving im doing. Does anyone have any tips for maximizing gas mileage? 16mpg is just a bit of a shock coming out of a little japanese 4 cylinder.

Congrats!
Your mileage will improve as the engine is gradually broken-in, usually after 1-2 thousand miles.

Don't forget to reset your computer periodically... The MPG displayed is TOTAL average until it is reset again. You can reset it by holding down the botton on the turn-signal stock.

I drive 80% highway and 20% city, so far is been 19.8
with 2100miles. I have been conservative. Should I take it for service?

I have about the same mix - 80% highway/20% city and I'm getting 23.5 after 1700 miles. I push the card pretty hard too. Did you reset the mpg counter though? Otherwise, you're getting an average from the beginning life of your car - you want to see how it has improved.... |

I'm getting about 21-24 MPG. I drive 70% highway (with traffic on DC Beltway) 30% city. But as many others have said, don't worry, it will get better as your engine breaks in.

I have a 330i 6MT and mine started off at 12mpg in city traffic and has improved to 16mpg. When I don't get stuck in traffic it's about 20mpg and on the highway it's between 28-36mpg. I have 3000 miles on my car.

I have 5000+ miles on mine and it just seems to be getting better and better. Over the last 1 month I have consistently being getting over 400 miles on a full tank. Averaging between 25-28 mpg. And this is within the Houston area(stop and go traffic). Sometimes I wonder if the car is going crazy because it is just amazing. My collegues also find it hard to believe.

I got 40.5 mpg average in my 325i once on the highway using cruise control set at 72 mph over the course of a 120 mile trip.
I average 28 mpg, about 75% highway, 25% city. |

scrooge, I also live in chicago...and drive the ryan, LSD, and gold coast area often. With the mix of these, I get 21.5mpg and have 6,000 on the clock.
