Recession-Proof Cars
The latest Business week has the 328i as the Gold Standard in troubled times.
. Gold Standards: Brand Equity, Reliability, Resale Gold standards are just what they sound like: Cars in high demand now and likely to be so in the future. That means that although a car is never a wise investment (unless you have the means to mothball a Ferrari for 30 years), the depreciation hit won't be as dire as it would be with a less beloved model. Depreciation also correlates to reliability, so these are also cars seen as more reliable (according to Consumer Reports.com). There's another factor at work; these are cars from makers that aren't in dire straits. Face it: the residual value of a marque plummets when a carmaker dies (Daewoo anyone?). |

I really don't care as I plan on driving the car until it needs to be towed to the scrap yard. Probably 6 years and 300k more miles.

are you 5.. how the hell is the 328 in 6 years going to go 300k miles and only need one tow.. umm i think you haven't had a bmw long enough.. hell my 95 540i last of the body style so should have been reliable has 136k miles on her and over 30k in repair bills in 8-9 years i have had her and now just now well actually earlier this week my car had to get towed and they said the engine is on it's last leg and just 1 year ago and only 6-7k miles they said it showed no signs of cylinder wear.. go figure.. all i have to say is shit can hit the fan and if you think your going to get 300k miles out of a 328 with just one tow man your crazy. why do you think they have a 4yr 50k mile warranty.. that is a statistical figure as to how long parts should last after that at about 60-80k miles you will start replacing things very very often.. which is why a 100k mile warranty make the most sense for someone who drives as much as you do.. 50-60k miles a year is a lot. i hope it goes well you could get an awesome one.. but even my 335 which i have had zero issues with in 16.5k miles i know will start having issues at 60k miles.. the car manufacturers pay HUGE money for people to figure how long there components will last and all that goes on in product development.. obviuously siemens missed the boat with the HPFP but not with my car at least not yet.
