European Weather Alert
Just arrived in Munich yesterday and it's cold and drizzly.
For any of you picking up here in the next few weeks: Plan for scarves, gloves, jackets and hats. An umbrella would be an excellent idea. Had a great first night in Munich. Hotel, then subway (the train, not the sandwich shop, and is super easy) to Marianplatz, Hofbrauhaus, shopping. What a great city. We tour the factory and pick up later today. Sixt picked us up at the airport in a 530GT diesel hatchback. Nice car, but had never seen one before. Watched an Aston Martin and SL600 fly by us at a buck forty or more on the way into town! And, yes, I will post pics and do a full report later!

But, winter tires are required when conditions dictate, and snow on the passes definitely meet that requirement. I was told yesterday that the police are known to have held a car until the owner has winter tires installed. Not sure that actually happens much, but that would really suck if I got into one of the passes and ran into that type of a situation. I just checked a bunch of road cameras throughout several of the passes, and there is a LOT of snow, and below freezing temperatures for the next few days. CRUD!!!!!! |

Were you planning on hitting up Grossglockner? I'm at the airport now, heading to Munich. I'll be ready for Alpine driving south and southeast of Munich this Mon-Wed and would appreciate any suggestions, based on the recent weather developments. |

I was planning on a route from Salzburg to Solden through many of the smaller passes, then Sella. Lots of snow, but I'm in Prague now, and hoping things improve in time for Sunday!!!

Nurburgring got a bunch of snow but hopefully it melts by Sunday.
Steady drizzle and fog on the way to Berchtesgaden this afternoon. Too bad, some fun windy roads. We got picked up in a new X5d |

OMG....the weather report says 23 degrees F for a low in Salzberg on Friday and Saturday night. Are you kidding me????? October should be warm and sunny in Germany. Definitely means snow overnight.
