1965 Shelby (or AC-Shelby) Cobra 289
I'm not really feeling the whitewall tires... The Cobra was produced in four groups for the U.S. market in 1962-67: -- 75 with 260 cubic inch (4.3 liter) Ford V-8s (Mark 1s) -- 51 with 289 cubic inch (4.7 liter) Ford V-8s (also Mark 1s) -- 528 Mark 2s with 289 V-8s -- 55 substantially upgraded Mark 3s with Ford 427 cubic inch V-8s (1965 to 1969) AC cars, the manufacturer of the chassis/body, also sold cars in Europe as the AC 289 until 1969.

In 1966 a friend of mine was the first kid on our block to get one of these beasts. No matter where he parked it, crowds of teenage guys would form, and who could blame them. I still consider these to be the second best looking Vette ever. The very best is of course the 1962 (Route 66) model. Frank really enjoyed that Vette for about 7 months until his lack of skill caught up with, and overtook his testosterone level.
