2019, didnt BMW 3.0d's have similar option at that time, so bad that they were withdrawn from police force use?
And of course the massive fire at Luton airport that some tried to blame on an EV or hybrid.... electrical fault on a diesel vehicle.... |

6,400 Jag recalls for a software update. For comparison BMW has recalled 1,600,000 (1.6 million) vehicles last year due to EGR.

I wonder how long it is going to be before Household Insurers get wise to this fire risk and seriously start loading Building Insurance if you have an EV on the drive. EV...... the 'White Elephant' that keeps on giving |

Yeah I’m surprised that home insurers haven’t got wise to this unique EV threat…

I'm sure the insurers have already factored-in the risks from years of experience. |

Agreed - was making that point that this isn't a new EV specific threat.

Yeah it's almost like insurers don't have risk managers
I mean I hate to also be overly pedantic but the use of 'white elephant' wears a bit thin...think someone has to go check what the definition of a white elephant is! |

The media do seem to play a big part in this - I assume that being paid by number of views exacerbates the issue and encourages them to keep on churning out similar articles.
Back in 2008, SUVs were the fashionable thing to be scared of. My X5 was approaching 4 years old and I was looking to replace it. It was a facelift 4.4 V8 with lots of kit (a £60k list) and the best offer I could find was just £12k. The media nonsense had driven the value right down. So I kept it for 3 more years and 30k miles and sold for £11k. Diesels took a major hit in the mid 2010s when the VW scandal broke. Gradually the media found something new to be afraid of and prices recovered. I suspect a similar thing is happening to used EVs now. I imagine 3 years from now we’ll look back and see what a bargain the used EV market was in 2024 |
