Remember the WD episode when they had one for a few £k and then bought another to transfer the interior and other parts...
Just like the E39 M5 they did; bought it for c£5k! Back then is when I should have gotten into BMWs; not 2010! Now they're both very priced out of my comfort zone unfortunately

My dad did manage to set fire to the seat when he was driving when he dropped his cigarette.... so it ended up with one vinyl seat as that is all the breakers had! I also inherited it but thankfully the mechanic who looked after it warned of impending expense so it was sold! Lucky escape.... |

It's stunning. A timeless design imo
I walked past an immaculate E39 5 series this morning in a lovely shade of dark blue. Another classic. Got me searching on PH !

My first time I knew what a BMW was.. I grew up in an area where nearly everyone had Astras/Escorts or Cavalier/Sierras. There was the odd Granada or Princess. And then my neighbours across the road had a 635i in orange! He worked on the oil rigs and made very good money for the time.

I have very fond memories of the 635csi from 1987.
My boss at the time had a 4.2 XJ6 and was looking at new BMWs. He wanted a 735i (and got one) but the local BM dealer (Hughenden M40 in High Wycombe. Now 'Shitner') didn't have a 7 series demo, so gave him a 635 for a few days as a tester. He bought it back to the office and I happened to be there. I absolutely loved it and, as a 19 year old, was crawling all over it. I asked if I could take it for a spin. He said "if you want, it's not my car". I fecked off in it and spent about an hour racing around the locale. I then returned and did a handbrake turn in our industrial estate (I was 19!). My boss didn't say a word! Have loved them ever since. I would take a 3.0 CSL and possibly a 1990s 850 over one, but hey! |

I admit I 'graze' AT a lot. Probably why I have bought and sold 8 cars in the past three years. It became an 'addiction' and I still need more therapy. I do only 'window shop' now, so there is some progress.
I do like to peruse Mathewsons and Anglia Car Auctions 'classics' every month, though. Luckily I just don't have the room in the garage, as there is a Z3 project taking up most of that. |

It ain't going to see the light of day this Summer, that's for sure. We do have a Z4 for open-top stuff, but ironically I don't really like convertibles. I always feel a bit of a knob driving with the roof down and also weirdly vulnerable. |
