Garden furniture - rattan/aluminium

We are looking for a corner dining set (higher table) in either rattan or preferably aluminium, looking around the prices seem to vary wildly, some are 4 grand, down to about 600 quid, visually they look very similar.

Has anyone got any recommendations towards the lower end of that price bracket? Sub 1500 and ideally sub 1000. The likes of Out & Out look good and they have regular 50% off sales but hard to gauge real world experience.

Our rattan stuff came from here : https://www.modafurnishings.co.uk/

No issues and IIRC we were just over £1k for two chairs / one two seater / table , however with the way prices are going for everything now it is fair to say it will be more expensive now.

They are not cheap for their covers so we purchased one form a bespoke internet supplier.

We got ours from here: https://www.rattandirect.co.uk/

All good. Like Kendo, surviving several Scottish winters. Comes with individual covers but we bought one big cover from Amazon - less hassle.

Had furniture from Argos now for a few years, always left outside no issues and can't tell any noticeable difference in quality from the expensive sets you see at Garden centers. It was in the sale at £600, 6 chairs, table, lazy susan and parasol.

Survived the storms too!

We bought our set from club rattan 4 yrs ago. Its been fab though does move on composite decking with high winds. We just move it aside and put a tarpaulin on it in winter as pictued. It's weathered the time well no rust or damage and comfy. IMHO if I get another couple of years out of it for the £800 I spent on it then it's well worth it.

I'm going to get pelters for this… but IKEA have some very sensibly priced stuff

Will it last forever or 10 years, probably not but it's a fraction of some prices.

Disclaimer I have none of these but once our garden is up and running (new build mud pit) they're right up there on the list. Some pals have got a set of the wooden ones and I've sat in them, very sturdy.

I would also add we've bought a couple of chairs, sofas and kids desk in the last month … and the quality is surprisingly good and a doddle to assemble!

I think if you are after a table and chairs there are endless reasonably priced options. Stick it into a corner arrangement and it becomes 5x the price....

I have the aluminium ones (chairs). They are indeed very comfy, although would recommend the matching cushions as the ali can be either freezing cold or roasting hot!

It surprised me when you said that. However, I looked at the set I bought and it’s up at £1899. I thought I didn’t pay that so I checked back. In 2019, I paid £699 for the same set! May be they had a summer sale so it might be worth waiting. May be the demand during COVID squeezed the supply.

We have a cheap set that's kept outside and still looks like new. Neighbors spent loads of recliner chairs, sofa, tables etc and after a couple years it all started to fall apart. Not sure on brand but the arms and backs literally disintegrated and he had to cover it all with duck tape.

Bought mine from Chimes

I bought my set from www.chimeshomeandgarden.co.uk

the set did have a minor issue when it arrived with the courier but they sorted it pretty quickly. customer aftercare goes a long way im my eyes.

Although probably irrelevant due to the thread resurrection, the set I have is now “reduced” from £2099 to £1199! Just shows. It’s probably only worth £100!

One thing I learnt from bitter experience is that the tempered glass table tops may not be a good idea.

I bought a reasonable set from Hayes Garden Centre in Ambleside with a 6 foot round table and 10 chairs. At the time of buying it the Hayes salesperson went to great lengths to demonstrate just how tough the glass is - repeatedly hitting it hard with a pound coin. The glass top was quite thick and weighed 60-80kg at a guess.

One windy January the table flipped over and shattered into many thousands of tiny fragments. To make matters worse some of them went into a gravel area. It was a very difficult job to clear the glass, particularly from the gravel.

I spoke to Hayes Garden Centre after and they were very unhelpful, annoying given their confidence in the strength of the glass before sale. I replaced it with a teak table of the same size.

Lots of good recommendations here. I’ve been happy with the Solloren range from IKEA

Pottery Barn? I've found their Tableware, Dinnerware to be pretty good quality, and it's in your price range.

Personally, I've had good luck with browsing different retailers and waiting for sales or discounts. Out & Out seems promising with their sales, but I understand your hesitation without real-world feedback.
I've been in the midst of renovating my garden, too, and I've come across some interesting furniture options. If you're looking to stay within your budget, I'd recommend keeping an eye on different retailers. Just watch for deals. You might just find the perfect corner dining set at a price that fits your budget.

Plastic 'rattan' all the way. It doesn't rot. It doesn't fade. It can be left outside all year. A quick hose down in Spring and it's good to go.

Now is NOT the time to get good prices IMO. Everybody buys patio furniture from now till May. Unsurprisingly!

I got mine at a local garden centre in September. It is branded as some Swedish name, but sure it was from the same factory in China as all the others. It was pennies as they wanted shot for the overpriced Xmas shit to take it's place.

From what I have seen you pay the extra money for the quality of the cushion fabric, not the equipment. Ours has been soaked through many times, but still dries as good as new.
