Nice car though OP, enjoy it but be prepared like many other M5 owners to 'get rid' within 12 months
So a Porsche as the avatar pic now....

My gripe with it was I couldn’t use the performance....too many cameras, to much traffic, not enough good roads...so I bought an Audi

Yeah need to mess around with the m buttons. The pops and crackles are only apparent in sport plus so that with comfy suspension and steering have taken the M1 button spot, will configure m2 to full on mode although likely keep DSC on 😂

Re colour, I was debating black or blue but after seeing black it just didn’t do it for me, so went for SMB…..going to get a 2 stage polish and ceramic coating done on it and then wash it at home only….hopefully will look decent for a while after that!!
When it's clean it's an unbeatable colour… when it's clean…

I find the paint quite soft - could just be mine but be wary until you've tried it yourself - even some fresh cloths have marked it.

My track record isn’t great for keeping cars long so who knows. My view is if you like a car and can afford it, why not…?!?? You only live once…..!

I think the 8 series is actually bigger than the 5 series.

My old 840i is a Luxobarge and I dont think it pretends to be anything else, it is a good looking car and can lift it skirts when required but it isnt the last word in composure.

I had an M850 for a few days about 18 months ago and oddly it felt nimbler than the M5, maybe something to do with the rear wheel steering that the M5 might be lacking.

Having said all of that I would have paid the extra for the M850i if the differential was only £10k but at the price I paid for the 840 it really wasnt 30k plus better.

Assume you have the 2 door? The equivalent of the 5 series 4 door would be the 8 series GC which is almost 11cm longer….!

Thanks mate 👍🏽

Loving the car at the moment. Performance and sound is immense.

Glad I’ve done it and only wish I had done it sooner (considered it when I got the 540i but bottled it…!)

Yes I think the Gran Coupe is quite a bit larger, my 8 coupe is actually not a great deal bigger than a 4 series and weighs about the same if not slightly less, due apparently to the Carbon Core.

When they made the 8GC, I imagine they were keen to avoid the issue with the old 6GC, which was 5 metres long but couldn't comfortably carry 4 adults. Pretty car, but definitely a case of form over function... The 8GC is generous in the back, but it is 5.08 metres long and 3cm wider than both the 8 coupe and 7 Series!

I didnt realise how much bigger it was over the Coupe, what i find hard to understand is why the Coupe is more expensive than the GC, seems odd

It isn't a very sensible size for UK roads!

I imagine the pricing reflects the difficulty in selling very large saloons in the UK. People here prefer SUVs. In the US for example the coupe and GC are the same price.

It is odd, the M4 is more than the M3 too, it feels like some kind of 2 door tax, i suppose there must be some method to BMWs madness.

It does look rather special! My desire for a weekend V8 (perhaps a TVR) in addition to an 8 or 7 Series might make the M5 the more sensible choice (!) instead of both of them…
