Australian M3 / M4 Pricing & Specifications Attached
G’day.
Long time lurker, new registrant and poster. Please find attached the Australian standard vehicle specifications and options list if of interest. Please excuse my pen scribble. I was advised the standard car based on these specs is going to be AUD $187,000 on the road in Western Australia. I’m not sure about the other Ausi states respective Stamp Duty regimes, but in WA, about 6% of this cost is stamp duty. All the best. Deej |

Thanks for posting.
At that price, my guess is M3's aren't exactly common daily drivers in the Land of Oz. That price would certainly be prohibitive to me.

Australians pay a LCT (Luxury Car Tax) of 32% along with their 10% GST. The combined tax should simply be called SET (Stick it in your Ear Tax) or more appropriately SRT (Stick it in your Rear Tax). Either way it seems that Australians are buggered when it comes to buying nice cars.

Yeh, as M4TW said, we cop it in the anus for any imported luxury car (which is pretty much everything these days). We must have the worst tax system in the world for this. It is supposed to encourage us to buy local cars by wacking so many taxes on cars over fifty odd thousand..but the local car industry is dead now. We cant compete with the imported Korean cars. With an optioned up car costing over $200k on the road, no, there don't end up being that many M3's around.
I suppose it is all relative however. If you have never lived or bought a car in say...the US, the UK, or the EU, we just don't know any different. |

On a car with a recommended price of $160,000 (about what I have heard the new M3 will cost here), approx $12,400 is GST and $23,300 is LCT. The pre-tax cost of the car is around $124,300. Porsche recently launched the Macan Turbo here. That is priced at $122,900. What is interesting, is that in the UK the M3 costs GBP 56k, whereas the Macan Turbo costs GBP 59k. So theoretically, the M3 should be cheaper in Australia too (both German made cars and in RHD), and prices around $117,900. So BMW are making around 30k extra (the rest to the tax man) on each M3 vs. Porsche on each Macan. A friend who works for one of the luxury car importers confirmed to me, Australia is their 2nd highest margin market in the world (only behind China). So the reason for the high prices in Australia is due to the car maker, not the tax man (they just add to the pain). Last edited by Yosemite Sam; 04-08-2014 at 11:04 PM.. Reason: extra detail |

got given $173,208 drive away on the M3 (RRP $156,900, which mean $17k on s/duty, rego & dealer delivery...WTF) with all options added (I got given exactly same price/spec sheet per above) ended up $185,173 I m going in there tomorrow, to try to talk it down or walk away from it, see how it goes. |

Most options, except CC brake and seat heating $185 on M3 drive away
No discount at all, dealer delivery $5.5k (the sales rep at Vic park dealer I spoke with has no clue about the car) I checked with bmw Melbourne, almost same price, as factory order m car, due to allocation, almost impossible to get discount I m still juggling on ym blue or min grey, so not order yet |

Heated seats is standard on the Ausi cars so not sure where you are getting that info. It's optional for rear only.
You are not going to get a discounted car out of auto classic until production catches up on orders. Also, best speak with their special vehicle salesman next time (Daniel Strahan) rather than a random. He knows the M Cars as it's his sole job to look after them and 7 series. A very honest, sincere, and "un-car-salesman" like car salesman. Refreshing. |

Yes, I m going for M3, so rear seat heating is an option.
Also, not getting the tv, sun protect glazing, steering wheel heating. And wonder is it still ok to speak to Daniel about the M3 order, rather than the sales guy they allocate me at auto classic? |

It's your coin, you can speak to anyone you want, but I wouldn't speak to Daniel unless you intend to order a car. Nobody likes time wasters.

Thanks DeejAus
I will email Daniel this afternoon about the M3 order. As last Wednesday night, I have all the paperwork written up for order, but I wasn't happy with the Sales Rep, so I put on hold and haven't sign the offer. Also, my wife doesn't like YM Blue, and prefer M.Grey In addition, have you heard about Auto Classic will fly customers who paid M3/4 deposit to Melbourne, and test drive the cars in July at Phillips Island? That's what I got told at Auto Classic, as they don't have the M3/4 launch in WA. |

my dealer mentioned there is a BMW subsidised M3/M4 drive day that they can take two customers, one customer who is already a BMW owner looking to change into, and one who is currently driving a brand other than BMW (that are potential M3/M4 customers). This might be similar or the same as what you have heard. Maybe for Autoclassic they are taking all M3/M4 customers?
Waiting on full circle / guaranteed future value figures myself. |

Normally BMW Australia will send you a complimentary M driving day (local, at Wanneroo) at a date when Jeff Brabham and his crew bring the cars across. This is complimentary for any M Car buyer. At least, it was when I bought my E92, not sure if they still do it. Having bought four new cars (X5, M3, 535D, M4) and one second hand car (535i) from auto classic in the past 7 years Id like to think I'm an Ok customer of theirs. I was invited to the Turkey launch (at a cost) but frankly couldn't be arsed. A long way to go for us Ausi's, particularly if it's my dime. As for subsidized days to Phillip Island for official launch, it does happen, but I guess they save that for their long term customers. I have not received an invitation as yet, not expecting one, but you never know. I wouldn't be presumptuous however. If this is the first M car you have bought from them it is unlikely they will invite you ahead of a few dozen folks who have demonstrated a history of purchasing many M or other cars. You may however be lucky. Hell they prob save it for people who have not yet committed and are sitting on the fence rather than those who have already signed. Much better (short term) business for them that way. I would suggest if it comes at any material cost however you best not bother (well, I won't be). Our cars will be here a few weeks after launch so I'm sure I can survive that long to drive it, and if you are going to allocate the time and resources to fly across the country you are better off spending the money on the two day driver training day at the Island or Eastern Creak. Two full days of intense training and thrashing their cars around a choice of either of these two great tracks and skid pans. I did Eastern Creak and much better value for money than getting to drive a couple of laps at a car launch and coming home with a T-shirt and a keyring. I got the BMW finance figures (based on a M4 cost of $187,000)
3 years, 10,000 km / year - guaranteed future value (balloon) $93,457 repayments = $3494 per month 3 years, 15,000 km / year - guaranteed future value $89,768 repayments = $3,585 per month These are calculated on 6.99% finance ... which I believe when it comes to the crunch they will offer much better finance rates |
