Soft Stop (again)

Sorry to discuss this issue again, but does anyone actually report this to BMW? I brought my car to a dealer in Toronto to discuss the soft stop issue. My dealer said I'm the first one to report this issue there. They sent the problem to BMW Canada, and said the car needs a software update. However, no estimate time on when the update will be available.

I've reported it to BMWNA and the U.S. National Highway Safety Transportation Administration. This is a serious safety concern that BMW continues to disregard. They sent a Field Service engineer to looks at the soft-stop issue, but all he did was give excuses how it was suspension related and not the brakes. When I asked to drive a manual car, which does not have the soft-stop issue, they told me they didn't have a car to drive.

Soft-stop helps to release rear brake pressure in an effort to smoothen out stops. Great idea, but totally ineffective in application. The car decides to release pressure after the car has stopped, lurching the car forward, then hits the brakes again. The problem isn't felt at all speeds, as soft-stop only works in stops under 15 mph.

Chris

Is it true that manual transmission cars do not have this "soft stop"? For the most part, all of the braking features on this car seem to be well integrated and almost completely unnoticed. I have never had a problem with abrupt stops. Whether its a slow or quick stop, it seems no different than any other car I have driven. Ever since I first started driving, I have modulated the pedal myself to come to smooth stop, so it has become second nature. It may be that I simply adjusted my self-modulation of the pedal to compensate for the problem that everyone else is noticing.

The only feature that was obvious was the "hill assist". Granted, I usually can get started fast enough that my car wouldn't roll backwards under normal circumstances. But, there is a nearby hill so steep that even automatics will roll backwards. It was pretty amazing being the in a manual and have the only car that didn't roll backwards.

Chis,
All stops, by definition, are under 15mph. (or it would not be a stop)

Are you saying that the soft stop only works when the initial speed is under 15mph?
