Surround on or off?

Which one do you guys prefer? Are there any facts to debate on which one is better?

99.9% of music is recorded in 2-Channel Stereo = Listening to a 2-Channel Stereo Recording through any 'Surround Sound Processing' is exactly that.

If it sounds good to you then turn it on

Surround Off!

The surround modifies the original audio in order to give it the appearance of coming from more than just 2 channels. I think it creates muddiness and hurts the crispness and clarity of the music.

But in the end, let your ear be the judge. If it sounds better, use it. For me, it sounds worse.

+1... the surround muddies vocals IMO.

I've fiddled with it for chuckles, but it's off now and will stay that way.

IMO Depends on what you are listening too. I like live recordings with the surround on. Acoustic is pretty good with it off.

Do you have the premo sound or regular?

When I'm playing songs with heavy bass, it seems to me surround distorts the bass a little and makes it not hit as deep/hard.

I only like surround because it feels like the sounds are around me, but other then that I think surround off sounds cleaner...

Good point. Live recordings are less about quality and more about 'atmosphere'. Surround does degrade quality, but does definitely put you more in the middle of the music.

Off, even when watching AVATAR! It actually made cracking noises. They went away when I turned it off.

Never have it on!
