Dinan is a no no for me

So I finally decided to get the Dinan upgrade. I called up Habberstad BMW and they said they can do the 08 models in house without sending it to Dinan since they had the proper cables. My car is just about to get juiced up on a cycle of test and tren when all of a sudden Joe comes to me and says. Sorry buddy your car doesnt have the oil cooler. Im like but I have the sports package and he says some cars have them others dont. But you can either put the stock one on for $3200 or Dinans for $2600. Im like $2600 for an oil cooler plus $2300 for the upgrade. Im better off getting the M3. This blows.

Now any suggestions. If I get a procede or attache or anyother mod do I need an oil cooler. If I do Im better off putting on an open belt primary on my big dog bulldog and maybe even putting on a set of PM wheels.

You dont need an oil cooler for any of the piggybacks. Another suggestion would be to bitch to BMWNA about it and get a retrofit. It is BS if you paid for the sports package but didn't recieve the oil cooler...

thats right with an xi its if you upgrade to the style 162s 18". Reason being with the sport package of the xi it has s peed limiter of 130 with the 18" your speed limiter is increased to 155. stupid but thats how it went. if iwere you id bitch to get a retrofit. Beat the hell out of your car and create a limpmode...than call and say it the oil went to high.

It will not work, unless you get limp mode. So either go up to the mountains and drive the shit out of your car or go to the track and do a couple of laps.

Many members have complained and have gotten nowhere. The only people who got the retrofit, are the ones that got limp mode due to the oil temps getting too hot.

I personally know of one person who didnt get limp modes and got a retrofit cant say who though due to a secrecy contract that had to be signed.

Thumbs up Depends a lot on your dealer. They can get it done for you if they are on your side.

Thats why people need to look at a good deal $$$ but not insist on cheapest dealer regardless of rep. Dealer can make a world of a difference. I hope you dealt with a cool dealership. Good luck, and approach your dealer and see if they are willing to help.

If the dealer won't play ball, cook the oil. After you do so, it would be wise to have them change the oil, because the factory oil will be destoryed at 300+ degrees F.

None of the other tuners require the oil cooler. However ponder this...why do you think Dinan does require an oil cooler? Remember, they do not require a Dinan cooler (which would suggest they are just being greedy), just an oil cooler. Also remember that Dinan is the only company to offer a warranty that matches the factory powertrain warranty. Could there be a link between having the oil cooler/extra power, and longevity? If so why would that analysis not be the same with other tunes?

These are just thoughts...

As far as I know, Xi's don't come with oil coolers, sport or not, and I learned that from the sales manager where I bought my car from.

As was stated if you get the xi version of the car you need to upgrade to the 18" wheel option to get the oil cooler. With 17" wheels there is no cooler. Great news about Habberstad not needing to send out the ecu. I have my 335i on order through them and can't wait to add the dinan program.

Well I called BMWNA and they said the only way xi's came with an oil cooler is if they got the 18 inch ugrade. However if you bought 18's out of their catalog you didnt get the oil cooler. So basically a $800.00 ugrade gets you an oil cooler but $3200 doesnt. Does that make sense. I dont think so.

Anyway I will ask a stupid question here. What is limp mode exactly? And how hard should I drive the thing in order to get that limp mode? Will the limp mode come up on my ECU? How many times do I need to get that limp mode before I can argue with them?

The prices you quoted for Dinan cooler and tune sound a little high. If you plan to keep the car, and really want the tune, find a Dinan dealer (not necessarily a bmw dealership) that's willing to work w/ you on price if you do both. Plus, if you get the M, you won't have all-wheel drive, if that's something you need.
