These recordings never do justice to the actual 3D sound you hear in person but in general would say I am still not in love with the stock sound (M4 or GTS) - however, my Eisenmann to my ear sounds definitively better, with a lower base note growl that is w/o doubt an improvement over stock.

I think it sounds pretty good considering the recording. I also like the 335is, E46 M3 and E9x M3. To me, they all have their pros and cons.

If the F80 sounded the same as N54, y'all would complain.

I like that it sounds different; I like the sound in general, but not so keen on the farts and rasp (heard the MPE in person). Active Autowerke is the best solution IMHO.

I'm sorry but I have no complaints of the sound of my 2015 M4. Everyone says it sounds exotic when they hear me pass by. I think the people who are complaining of the sound are E92 purists who can't get to through their heads it's not a V8. Just my opinion.

There are indeed apparently quite a few E92 owners that are less than happy but for me I never owned the V8 and in fact this is my first M car so not my issue. I just think the Eisenmann sound is an improvement over the raspy stock sound (also visually a hell of a lot better). I also get pretty tired of the cold startup sequence (regardless of necessity) but without an ECU map I guess I am stuck with that.

Don't get me wrong, LOVE the car, my DD, and happier with the Eisenmann sound improvements but still the weak point of the 'experience' to date if I had to name one - there are far, far more positive points about this car

The reality is that all turbo cars sound like crap compared to their normally aspirated predecessors! The S65 sounded wonderful and had no torque compared to the S55 and was also quite hard on fuel in day to day usage compared to the S55.It does not sound that bad considering the benefits that the turbo engine has over the M engines of the past.

I can't stand the bassy, drone, deep toned exhausts. They sound like they are out of their powerband.

I guess years of riding 2 stroke 800cc snowmobiles and hearing how the motor sounds when on the pipes have distorted my view.

Higher pitched, exotic sounding exhausts sound like they are in their powerband and "on the pipe", so to speak.

That's one reason I always had Corsa exhausts on my Corvettes.
Couldn't agree more. Only thing I want from mine is a little more volume. The tone and the rasp to me sound exotic and special.

Why does it sound so hollow? I have yet to hear one that sounds good on video or in person.

Rest of the car is great though

The MPE actually changed the exhaust note completely, if had multiple set ups on my e90 and I can honestly say, the f80 with an MPE sounds amazing, very exotic in my opinion, I can't wait to get the MPE on my f80.

A car MUST sound good as well as perform well. Daily driving is about FEEL, sound, ergonomics and looks. The street performance is obviously important, but my "street performance car" must tickle the soul. You can't use all the performance anyway so "being faster" is a silly argument. Enjoy the drive and the amazing sounds that come with it. This is not acceptable.

There are some things that the "muffler engineers" simply can not fix!

All they are doing is putting lipstick on a pig ...

The original post is about the M4 GTS.
Not really a "daily driver," though I suppose it could be.
And if an M4 GTS doesn't "tickle the soul" then you are soulless.

Again, the M4 GTS is much more track-focused than your average BMW.
Therefore "being faster" means more for the M4 GTS than your average BMW.
You're not supposed to race on track days, but a pecking order will develop.

And anyway, doesn't saying "7:28 Nurburgring lap time" do anything for you?
You (probably) can't use all of its performance. But a professional driver did.

Hear hear! Literally.

F1 went to V-6 turbos for "cost savings" and relevancy. Supposedly.
But no, the future is electric. We all know that.

Saying that means nothing if you are getting passed by miatas at the track at the same time
