Replacing manual seats with power seats?
I have a 2012 128 with manual seats. I have the opportunity to pick up some powered seats from a 135.
Question is: Will they work in my car? Coding or wiring required?

A few searches indicate that powered seats cannot be installed in a car that didn't come from the factory with powered seats. True?

I don't really know but I would think it's possible but might not be "plug and play". Have you tried searching the 3 series forum? There are about 10X as many 3 series cars and they've been around longer.

people have said in the past it is not possible. the seats would fit on the brackets but the car is not wired for them.

I wonder if there's more to it than power & ground? I'd hope the seat controls remain in the seat, outside the realm of the computer and there's no "coding" required. Couldn't say though.
(+ airbag connections... which may be the same). |

IF your going to attempt this... don't forget to remove the key fob (or IF you have CA - the the keys far far away) bc IF the key is in the car, you could trigger and seat airbag fault - requiring a visit to the dealer or BT scan tool to clear the fault.
I don't see why you could not install power seats in your car(ground and power). But then again the Germans never do things the "easy way" now do they! |

Good point. With anything near an airbag, I remove the ground cable from the battery, just in case, for the whole process, but it never hurts to hear a reminder!
