Diesel vibrations
I have a new 320 d, sports pack manual, it's a great car, but one thing that does bug me is the vibrations felt through the gear lever and sterring wheel at idle. While is not shake your fillings out your teeth, it's irritating. The gear lever also seems to bounce around a lot in 6th gear on the high way, so much so, at times i can't read the numbers on the gear lever.
My wife has a scenic diesel and gets absolutely no vibrations through either the steering wheel or gear lever. Guys with the new 320 Diesel's please comment. I live in JHB South Africa. Stephen |

Um....when idling, my steering wheel doesn't shake at all! The car doesn't shake either. There is a slight shake in the gear nob, but if I put my hand on it...it stops. It doesn't seem anything more than my old E46 325ti.
The only real shake I get, it when I turn the car off...as the engine splutters to a stop...the car has a little side to side wobble. It's not serious, and it doesn't happen all the time. I just noticed it. If you want to share anymore "diesel" things...you can contact me here on at broken1@e90post.com Where do you buy your diesel from? (I'm still looking for a garage, that doesn't want to charge the world) The best i've found it the BP just off the william nicole offramp )towards forways...R5.39 a litre! |

Also...How many km's do you have on your car? I am find my car smoothes out alot when it's warm...and also the more milage i'm doing the easier the engine is running...
When I first got it, it felt "rough" to rev up to 3500-4000rpm...now it just glides there. Also they suggest the lowest sulphur fuel you can get. I think sasol and total sells it... |

Yep, a little vibration thro' gear lever but none noticeable thro' steering wheel.
I wouldn't say anything more than can be expected with a 4 cyl diesel to be honest..... Definitely no bouncing around in 6th......maybe your shift has a loose linkage which would also emphasise the vibration....??

"Diesel Vibrations"... I think the Beach Boys were originally going to name a song that.. but it was tough to rhyme with and didn't really "flow". So they changed it to "Good Vibrations".

My car has has 5 200 km's. If anything i think the vibrations have got worse. I booked my car in for Monday next week, will let you know if they find anything wrong.
I always use Sasol turbo diesel, even though it is more expensive. Stephen. |
