couple more questions about terra

Do we know yet for sure if the U.S. Terra interiors have the black side airbag covers, or are they Terra. Also i was at the dealership yesterday and the salesman showed me what he called the same terra interior that i would get in an e90 on an X3. On BMW USA it only shows terracotta for the X3. Was my salesman mistaken? The X3 interior looked alot more pumpkin like then the pics I have seen on this site of the e90 terra, is this the case?

I did a lot of research on both interiors, and have seen examples of both. The X3 Terracotta interior is about the color of a basketball, a bright reddish/orangeish brown, like the red rocks you might see in Arizona or Utah. The E90 Terra interior is darker brown and less orange, more like a football. Not the same color at all.

I would have a very close look of what the 3 series looks like with terra. I almost ordered it, and decided on lemon last minute! I parked next to a 3 with terra the other day, and as nice as it is...I found it way too orangy and just don't think i could live with it everyday.

I don't want to put down anyone on this site who ordered terra, but I'm not a total fan of it!

Here in US, they do not have the black airbag covers on the side of the seats. Not the same color as Terracotta. See Pic;

Also, this is a color you must see in all light to appreciate. Yes, gets a little orange in bright sunlight and turns a mud brown in shadows.

dnh325i, I'd agree. The armrest is the closest to Terra in the shade. At night, the Terra is very dark, like Mud. In the shade and in evening, the Terra looks very much like a dark saddle or as someone else stated an american football. It's so hard to get people to understand that Terra means "earth", not the same as terracotta pots.

Petercat, my trivial obsession with the airbag covers continues.

Wish1 has posted an AW E90, Terra interior, with BLACK airbag covers - think it's on pg 6 or 7 of the interior thread. There's also a SG with Terra, from a poster in Wisconsin (?), same thing. WTF? Wish I could figure out the system. Maybe it's a production batch issue...Wonder if BMWNA could shed any light?

Oh well, I've committed to the color, so whatever it ends up will have to do. It's not like I hate it with the black covers, but certainly do prefer the look of yours - consider yourself lucky!

Incidentally, I noticed a photo you posted looked like you had no airbag cover on your seat sides at all, or was it just the photo? That's even better still - wish they would have mounted those in a more obscure location...

Yes, I do consider myself lucky. I do like it without any cover.
I got my car on June 24th here in Minneapolis, it had just come into the dealer that week.

I've never really thought about it, but no cover at all (hmmm?). I've always thought that they put it in the bolster of the seat and the seam breaks open when the airbag deploys.

I've got the standard seats, maybe the sports seats are different.

Good Luck, I'm sure you are going to think it is better than you expect. Prior to my purchase, I had only seen it online (does no justice). When I saw it on the floor... I knew I had to have it.

Post pics when it comes in.

I saw at my local dealer this past weekend Terra and other interiors that all had the side airbag covers. Only the cover in the Terra interior was colored black. The color of the covers in the other interior colors matched the interior.

Must be a color match issue - I would think it would be hard to match two materials perfectly in Terra.
