E46 M3 vert couldn't pass me!
Very impressed my that little E90! Last night, empty highway, an M3 cabrio with the top down and 3 guys inside couldn't pass me. I got the jump at around 80mph, I was about two cars in front of him when he started going after me. We went all the way to 160mph, and he was right by my rear bumper. I owned an M3 for 4 years, which wasn't a cabrio and I know for sure that if it was a coupe it would have spanked me! But taking in consideration it had top down and 3 fat guys inside.......I didnt think I would have beaten it!
Anyways got home very happy last night!

Maybe it came down to who was the better driver or who was more brave, but a E46 M3 cabrio should beat our 330's in almost any situation.
He could have had SMG and had no idea how to shift it correctly. Always a good chance of that if there is a convertible M3 in Florida w/ 3 dudes in it. |

The M3 cab weights about 300 lbs more than the coupe. Add two grown men and there is an additonal 350-400 lbs. So the M3 cab is now 650-700 lbs heavier than your e90. And it only has 78 additional horsepower. Should be pretty even I would think.

The M3 driver was an idiot in the first place. He should never have put his passengers at risk by going that fast, even in a Bimmer. That's just wrong, especially in a convertible.
Sorry, opinion only, will probably spark debate. But how could you feel comfortable risking your friend's lives like that?

3 series verts are pretty feminine as a vehicle choice
it's all bout driver skill, the other night a tailed a 996 turbo porsche around a long haripin, just on his ass, he couldn't pull away and I could have gone faster sure then it straightened out and he was gone, but yeah......... most street racing isn't about the prowess of the car (not that I'm a bad ass driver, the guy in the turbo was just terrible) |
