Just when I thought it couldn't get worse,my Gap insurance provider went into liquidation. I had a chat with Sytners' body shop manger yesterday he estimates
the damage around £12000 at least, the car was lifted up on the hoist and the front wheel was just hanging loose,he thinks there's diff or gearbox damage as the driveshaft was apparently ripped out. My Gap provider was car2cover,which now is being looked after by the Motorway Direct group.Apparently I am likely to loose 10% of the claim figure if it's successful. |

Just read this thread for the first time. Sorry to hear of your loss and the accident. Insurance plus some gap cover (even if not the full amount) will still probably put you in a better position than had you just went with a part-exchange type deal on the new car, so perhaps a thin and tenuous silver lining, but not all bad.

Assuming they write it off, £12k repair cost should see it dead if value is below £20k ish |

I'm in discussion at he moment with the insurance assessor, his take on it is that it's repairable, with approximately £11000 of damage.I was offered £22000 as a px against the M3 so I'm assuming that's the trade value. He has not taken into account possible diff damage as the driveshaft was pulled out during the impact,he told me that would become evident during a road test. Also as both tyres are damaged, then surely a full set would have to be fitted as I wouldn't want to drive a car with 12300 miles of wear on one side and brand new on the other.
At the moment I don't know which way it's going to go. |

That's very borderline and it's a shame they couldn't have found another grand for the repair work. It would likely have been written off then.

A well positioned hammer at the right time would have achieved your write off I'm sure. Keep fighting as those repair figures sound like it isn't the full fix so your insurer are trying it on.

I was told by one of the body shop guys that the assessor was using a £35 an hour labour rate when he was estimating labour costs, which seems really low for a BMW dealer body shop.

One of their underwriters did. You need to check the policy details to see who underwrites the policy. |

I'd have thought any decent body shop is more like £50+ minimum per hour

I think you said earlier that you were insured by Churchill? They are a decent company, so I would recommend you contact the claims department now and explain to them that if they are going to repair the car that you insist that it is repaired at a BMW Approved bodyshop. I think that is more than reasonable bearing in mind the extent of the damage. They won't like that much, but they should agree to it, so stick to your guns. That should then mean that the car will be written off. Fingers crossed for you. |

How did you not get injured or died by crashing 70mph ? Sounds like a miracle.
Your car has got a lot of issues and I would think normally that extensive damage any usurance will write it off. If I was to look at buying your car and found out it was in such horrific state previously I would walk away as its still damaged goods. |

It's going to sound trite and predictable but thank God you both walked away from it. At the end of the day, it's just a car. I know we love our cars, but you're far more important.

Well I've had confirmation from the insurance assessor that my car is being written off. Ive had a very good offer from the insurance company, which is a couple of grand over what I was offered as a part ex.
I've also got vehicle replacement gap insurance so I'm expecting a nice cheque from them when it's all settled.Ive already spoken to my dealer about an M3 CP in January. |
