westwest888 I hope you have a very large mouth - you're going to need it to fit both feet in.
Also, lucid a troll? Watch it, your newb is showing. Cheers |

What was the price delta between the 2004 E46 330ci vs. the E46 M3? I think that'd be a good starting point. Does anybody remember? IIRC, my 330 cost me a total of $55K before taxes with options, etc. How much more was the M3?

[QUOTE=swamp2;1659836]Right, pay more, get a used car instead of new and get less performance. Makes a lot of sense.
There is no way in hell the car will be at $52k base. If you know that little about this cars expected price and what you get compared to the competition you should simply forget the M3. QUOTE] I'm answering the question to the original post - "how much are you willing to spend on an M3"? If pure performance is what you're after than why are you looking at an M3? There are many lower priced options for less money. I'm stating you can get more "car" for the money in an M5, 911, etc. To each his own. And yes, I've bought plenty of cars 9 months old or less for great deals. They're not even broken in and the original owner takes the big initial hit. I'm not "guessing" the base will be $52k, I'm stating that IMO its too much for a 3 series of any sort (spare a CSL of course) when you start adding options and end up close to $65k out the door + GG + tax = $75k for a 3 series? I see some big depreciation just like on the M5.... Higher base price is fine for me, I'll just be patient and pick up a used one. I'm very familiar with M cars, I'm on my 2nd M3 and plan to buy a 3rd eventually. Its a great car and I'll end up with one one way or another... just might have to wait a bit.

The days of $10-15K difference between the top model in a line and the performance model are gone, my friend... My bet (again): $55,000 for the Sedan (+$18000 vs. 335i Sedan) $57,000 for the Coupe (+17,000 vs 335i Coupe, or better digested, only $7000 over a 2006 E46 M3 Coupe base price, or $8450 if you take into account the leather standard in the E46 M3) $67,000 for the Convertible (leather included, +$17,000 vs. a 335i Convertible, just $10000 over an 2006 E46 M3) The advantage -in addition to the prestige of the M Division- in sales of the M3 over its competitors is that, the jump from top Series to M in price has been traditionally not as steep as the other brands... I hope that this will continue with the M3. |

I am curious how you decide the value of something. Compare apples to apples, new, stock vehicles, what car in this class will offer a better combinatation of the above criteria for less money? The IS-F may be a decent choice for less $. If you can't get over the fact that the car is "just a 3 series" it will never be worth significantly more than any other 3 series to you. Like I've said before, it is 80% different than a 3 series, the 3 series is moving up the "food chain" at BMW, and lastly, it offers Ferrari 360 performance at 1/2 the price. In comparing the M3, M5 and 911 I would say the verdicts are pretty much in. M3 matches the M5 in lower speed acceleration then gets bested as higer speeds, M3 > M5 at the track and in all handling regards. M3 > 911 in all performance metrics and matches or exceeds the 911S in many contests. You will be able to spend much more on a used M5 or 911S than a new base model M3 as well. Not sure how this is more car for the money ... unless the only criteria is badge or status. I am done repeating myself. Compromise, baby, compromise! |

Finally, we've got a bet of financial value on this. I've tried this before here, but the person wanted to bet at $56k. Anyway, so our bet is at $54k for $200. If the MSRP of the E92 M3 coupe excluding charges and taxes is equal to or less than $53,999.99, you win, otherwise I win. I have a sense Epacy might be interested in being the neutral party as he has stepped up to that role before. Can you do this Epacy? Or Swamp? Or Mkoesel? Also, not sure what the troll language is all about. Ask around and you'll find out I'm no troll... |

The delta was around $12,000 ($37,000 to [$48,000 + $1000 GG Tax]) base to base...

To answer the OP, I might be in at $60K for an e90 with the equipment I want. Anything higher than that makes the GT-R a no-brainer.
As for the bet, is destination charge included? I think I read the answer as no. |

I'd like a part of that bet! I would gladly wager $200 USD that the M comes in at a base price higher than $54,000; excluding dest., ggt, or any other add-ons.

I'll happily be the neutal party to collect all the money for the bests against westa. I think I've proven my integrity with the bet against T-Bone.
Looks like that's 4 people who want in: lucid, swamp, chitown08, and devo. Westa, by the time you are done losing, the car will cost you well into the 60s. |

I am confused about how many bets westwest888 is willing to entertain exactly. I am assuming he is honoring mine since he explicity stated he would. How about the offers from Swamp and Devo (did chitown08 officially propose a bet)? We need clarification from Westwest888. Finally, when I win and collect Westwest888's $200, do I have to report this as income to the IRS? That's only part of the bet that seems uncertain to me. |

I agree with some of the posts that have recently been made. I purchased my '04 M3 Vert fully loaded for $65k out the door. I purchased my '05 M3 ZCP for just under $65k out the door. So with that said, I believe a $10k mark-up for all fully loaded models is reasonable...$70-$75K, fully loaded, out the door would be reasonable for the Vert, $65-$70k, fully loaded, out the door for the coupe would also be reasonable until a ZCP version or the CSL comes to america. Now the Sedan I'm not to sure about, but will actually be the one I will be purchasing next!

$59,900 Coupe / $68,900 Convertible (SWAG)
So, based on this historical info, it seems reasonable to assume the M3 Coupe will start closer to $60K. I'll bet it's $59,900 - that's a nice round price-point and just below the psychological $60K barrier. And, I'll hazard a guess that'd make the convertible starting price at $68K. Just SWAG based on loose historical info, but that's all anyone else here is doing.
