By no means am I saying that he is being smart with his income nor did I intend my comment to encourage others to follow in his exact footsteps. I hope that any young person reading this really thinks hard about following the same path. However, given the fact that OP seems to have decided to go down this path already there is also nothing wrong about it either. He's young and it's better to get all of this stuff out of his system now rather than later. He has plenty of time left in his life to re-coup. Will it be tougher having dumped that money into a car at this age? Probably, but who's to say?

It's just the paradox of life. If he takes that money and invests it like what a "smart" person would do, sure he might be better off financially later but there is also a chance that he will never have a chance to own such a vehicle or even if he can he probably shouldn't. The way I see it, it's not that much different than those that spend time backpacking through Europe or travel the world after they graduate from university. Or those of us on this very forum who dump money into modifying our cars even though they are depreciating assets or on lease. They are deciding to trade a bit of the future to gain a life experience while they can and bodies are able because who knows what life brings and they may never get another chance.

At various points in everybody's life we have to decide if we want to risk some of the future to gain / experience something now and it will all come down to how much a particular person values that experience. It's the kid's money and life so it's his decision. We also shouldn't forget the fact the kid does have parents and they don't seem to have an issue with it so who are we to judge.

To each their own. Right or wrong is a lot like beauty at times, it's in the eye of the beholder.

5600 a month take home

1452 mortage w/ tax & insurance
800 food cost
98 cell phone
462 for BMW 335i
112 for auto insurance w/ wife
1200 dinning out & living necessity (internet, water, tollet paper..)
240 gas
300 on Roth 401

If I know what I know now, I skip the university and save the 60K to build my own busineses. The education loan almost cost me 85k just to pay it off.

great good on your businesses

You are spending a LOT of money (and opportunity cost of investing) in a car you've never even sat inside? Wow.

You seem to be straight up ignoring a lot of good advice from people who have been in your shoes before. This is a mistake.

It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it.

Texas Real Estate, I would love to have a $1452 mortgage, mine was more then double that, but with interest rates being what they are (and having paid it down a bit) it is much better now. Its not like its even a nice house, it was a dump when I bought it.

As an unrelated side note....really just so I can vent, my wife fell in love with a house we recently saw, I did the math and if we were to get an amazing deal on the place the monthly cost would be(mortage w/ tax & insurance)......wait for it.......$7,400 and she seems to think that sounds ok, then you have to heat and cool the place, gardeners etc, we won't be doing that.....yet

I don't think there is much jealousy, just advice from people that have probably made stupid decisions or know more now than when they were 19. Honestly, why would you be jealous of spending all of your income on a car payment? Doesn't sound too appealing to me. Anyone that has a job could choose to spend all of their money on a car, but more don't than do. No jealousy here.

To all the "older and wiser" members here that are saying invest during youth so that you can have a greater return later in life...

...Please remember tomorrow is not promised to anyone.

I'm not saying don't save or invest at all, but you also can't be so dead set that you'll be living 20,30,40+ years for you or anyone in your will to use your investments.

Congrats to OP on enjoying life! You may or may not regret this later, but at least you'll have an experience that most will never have.

I skimmed the thread. If he chooses to spend his money on a car, so be it. I understand ppl telling him to invest it differently but i suppose he didnt ask whether we thought it was a bad move or not. Also, toker.. Pretty cool that you never worked a 'real' job and do what you do from home like a your own little business man. Thats badass. SO. That aside. Toker, my 2 cents of opinion that you didnt ask for. GTR is a beast of a car, but id look at a porsche too. Have you considered a porsche? If you dont mind AT than the gtr i guess will do. But hell, with than much performance at your fingertips i wouldnt want to do it in any other way than in a Manual transmission. I still dont understand why they do this.

+ 1. You could find a nice Porsche GT3 for around the same price. You don't want a $60K "Nissan" lol J/K.

God! So many bitter guys! Congrats man, good job! I'm 27 and an architect. Of course I couldn't afford to buy my 335 on my own. But I work my ass off so I can keep my biggest passion alive. Having a beautiful Ohlins setup installed as we speak let's see those pics!
