That's my car installed the update to 11/2023.50 after another 3 hours on the charger. Honestly, with my daily useage, there is no way in hell I'd have got the update to install w/o the charger to top up the battery(s)

Life used to be so much easier when you bought a car and that was that. No need for these OTA updates.

Yeah, cars are far too overly complicated now. Older cars, less software = less bugs in software. No need for bloody updates!

I agree. I suspect these updates are more about the so called driving aids, especially steering interventions, and any consequential legal challenges when things go awry but not much else of benefit. This is why, like many here, I have the steering aids turned off and these so called updates are of little use to me.

Despite having the app set to "no downloads" it did it anyway! I now have another stuck update, the third in two years which will likely need the dealer to clear up yet again.

I now suspect my car (a very early 330i) has a module which does not update easily? Should be covered under extended warranty but I doubt the dealer will easily identify the issue?

The first stuck update was under manufacture warranty and fixed with what they called a "forced update"!

The second stuck update was also forced and covered under extended warranty as part of another wider claim so I paid the one excess fee.

The current update also seems stuck? I will press the dealer to find the "root cause", and not just force another update, when the car has a service in May.

BTW only one earlier update installed without dealer intervention. All others have timed out in the car after serval weeks and been repeatedly reloaded in to the car by the App so the issue never goes away.

Just done 175 miles and still not satisfied. TBH I'm not losing any sleep over it, and if doesn't want to update then that's fine. It's going in to the dealer in May sometime. I'll let my neighbour take it in as he runs the dealership!!

I assume that the 330e always has the battery topped up, due to the wall charge, right? No need for an extra charger for the battery?

Mine has never pissed around waiting to do an update. The only delay has ever been transferring from my phone to the car, which is why I try to let the car download the update via its data SIM, where possible. But once the update is on the car it’ll install instantly.

My G20 330e has the update waiting to install for almost two weeks now.

Do you charge the EV battery? I know some people just use it like a non-plug-in hybrid.

That's what I would like to know. Is it worth it to buy a charger or wouldn't it work with the 330e?

I could not say, I have a M340i, but I have a 25A CTEK battery charger to top up the 12 v battery, and once it's fully charged, then the car will charge the small MHT(Li-On) battery in my car.

The 330e is designed to be topped up at home, but here in the UK (this is the UK forum) some people get the 330e as a company car, because it’s very tax efficient, but then just treat it like a non-plug-in hybrid.

Mine is still not updating. Plenty miles recently, including 450 last Saturday, yet still doesn't want to update. I was getting a notification but even that's disappeared, probably as I ignored it!
Phone just says "Follow instructions in your BMW"

It might still be there. In the car, go to Settings > General Settings, and then scroll to the bottom and I think you'll find "Software Upgrade" then the current version, select that and if the update is still available you should see it there.

Yes, been checking that too. Just says something along the lines of the car will say when it's ready. From the other thread I'm not only one experiencing a delay. Not that fussed tbh, if it does it fine, but if not I'm certainly not buying a charger just for that. It's due in the dealers in June for MOT and brake fluid so will mention it then if still no updates.

I would suggest that you speak to them on the phone in advance and make a point of asking for that update to be carried out while the car is with them, and that's assuming you are still under warranty, otherwise they may try to charge you.

But then, I do not have much respect or trust in any main dealer these days TBH.

As main dealers go I'm pretty happy with ours. Have a good relationship with them - even carried out a small job our second car recently and didn't charge. Staff are great too
