looks to be a fixed parcel shelf in the back and does that mean we can assume it wont be a lift back? thats disappointing. Intersting to see they are doing the chrome strip across the full back like the LCI 5er and 7er have. New front bumper looks good but it seems BMW is cutting costs by having their cars share grills with their SUV counterpart. The LCI 5 is getting the X5 grill as the 7er got the x7 grill. This appears to share the x1/2 grill.
really wish bmw would put the rear view camera under the bmw emblem to protect it when not in use instead of above the license plate. It renders the camera pretty much useless in the winter.

Such a missed opportunity IMO - I actually think that this looks good, but the FWD is a deal breaker for me.
Many times I have wished my F80 was just a bit smaller but not different in any other way. Some sort of M2GC or sedan would have been a killer car for BMW, and it is too bad that they didn't make the 2er GC RWD....

There is no way they did not understand that even if a customer did not have sufficient mechanical knowledge, he or she must have felt the differentiating confidence in exiting corners, only felt in a well balanced, rear wheel drive car.

I'm sure this has been covered, but doesn't the 2 series coupe still have a solid 2 years or so remaining before new design? Why are they about to reveal a gran coupe that looks like a totally different model? Would the new coupe version adopt the front end design of this 4 door?
And I'm sorry but this thing just looks like some sort of quasi hatchback or something. Totally bloated and goofy looking, and I'm disturbed that anyone would have anything positive to say about the design. It's a shame, BMW had the opportunity to create a really good looking car that would have been a nice compliment to its 2-door counterpart. The render below is my favorite I've seen for a 4-door 2 series. Instead, BMW decides to get too cute

I just don't have the need for the overall size of the F80 and the new 3ers...but the practicality is nice. Given the success of the past, smaller 3er M sedans, I don't understand why BMW doesn't do more in that space, while retaining RWD, whether they call it a 1M, M2GC or whatever.

FWD proportions are just so radically different than RWD proportions. This rear end could literally be from any economy FWD sedan. It's hard for me to believe that BMW are actually going to produce this. I never thought I'd see a FWD BMW sedan...

Damn it just looks like a Mazda to me now... the hood-line has Ford fusion written all over it.
The FWD/AWD thing doesn't have me surprised, and honestly I have driven some fun FWD cars before... as long as the car is designed and engineered well, turns in correctly and is engaging to drive it. Who knows, maybe they will have an actual shot at the FWD market. Do I see the new platform as a missed opportunity... of course! A small RWD turbo car with 4 doors would have been a riot... the FWD should have been left on the minis |

Yet one competitor has A3 and A4 sedans and the other has A and C sedans. I'm gonna give credit to BMW for recognizing that they somehow developed a blind spot and misunderstood the market and need to make a compact sedan , but FWD only. Cmon man!! |
