I actually read your post before I took the car in and took a picture to show the service advisor. The tech claims the battery status shows its good. They are still working on finding a solution .

Same thing my Dealership said until they were instructed by the Engineers to just change it!! All hardware checks initially seemed to be ok at 1st, that’s why the issue was escalated to BMW’s Engineers.

I have 11/2023.20 installed by the dealer back in mid-November although my BMW app still says 07/2023.53. I have the interior light animations similar to the video clips on the first page but I don't have light animation menu on iDrive. The store also doesn't offer it for me. Is there any way to force the my BMW app to recognize that the car has updated software?

Try signing out and deleting app also, hold volume button down for 70secs.. Make sure you connect to you vehicle with the app once you’ve downloaded the app again. Hope this helps.

I now have the welcome light options. They’re stupid and certainly nothing special. And the fact that bmw has clearly cheapened itself to have people who have these expensive cars pay $50 for this nonsense option really disappoints me. I am growing more and more ‘done’ with this brand every day.

They are becoming too big for their britches and are losing their differentiation in the car market.

The other thing they need to address is just how ‘buggy’ the i7 is - tons of intermittent software issues, I can’t always use my theatre screen, etc. They put out a product and can’t even support/ address the issues?

Thank you for being a BMW beta tester. I don't have the animations as they said my software needs updating before I can be offered the $50 option. I actually don't mind if they charge for stuff thst not everybody wants. But I do agree that the G70 (not just the i7) is buggy with many issues related to the software. That makes us all beta testers. The latest for me is the seat calibration/driver restraint error that requires a visit to the dealer (Wednesday for me) but it also includes the esim system and numerous other bugs that either require a software reboot (which luckily is easy) or a trip to the dealer (which may mean a simple fix but is still a PITA).

Maybe you should get a Benz or a Nissan. I happen to enjoy the route BMW is taking, even though BMW’s current line is buggy, it’ll eventually see itself through and the innovation is impressive to say the least. These vehicles are costing over 100k and $50 for an update with new features should be pocket change. I’m just glad we come to the point where it’s even possible to get updates like this. The automotive industry has come a long way. I enjoy watching my vehicles say hello to me at night with the “non special” light show.

So you think it’s ok to pay over $155k for a fully fully loaded i7 and be asked to pay $50 for a light ‘show’ that some would say is interesting, but certainly not something special. Just asking.

We buy cars with features. Especially fully loaded cars - they should not nickel and dime folks for stuff. To me, it cheapens the brand.

Sure - $50 is indeed ‘pocket change’ for many of us, but it’s the principle.

Right?

And - the bugs that need to be worked out - they are not consistent even across North America in how they are addressed. My comment there is that if a company is going to offer a feature on a product, it darn sure should figure out how to support it optimally after the sale.

The eSIM issue is front and center / people paid really good money for that screen (me included) and for it to ‘sometimes work’ or ‘never work’ is just plain awful. And bmw should have had this fixed by now. How long has the car been out? They should be mortifyingly embarrassed about it.

It just seems none of this is a priority for them. After all, we already paid them for the cars. What’s their incentive to swiftly address these major issues (where people spent thousands of dollars for features / things that just plain don’t work)?

here it's CHF 89 (like USD 80.-) and i fully agree: it's the priciple

about eSIM: this is a disgrace for a brand like BMW! inacceptable!

Go out to the car to discover "no online connection". I reset the system multiple times using the volume knob but no luck. Tried remote start thru app but no luck and then realized that the app had not received any usage info from car since my upgrade to 8.5.

Took car to the dealership yesterday and they are working on it. Last message from advisor was "BMW is involved along with our BMW Genius". Gonna message my advisor today to make sure animation is downloaded and functioning before they wrap up this ticket.
