I think all of us with this issue understand that a certain amount of steer drift to either side is normal, but our cars require constant left steering input to keep the car straight. I have yet to see anyone report their car pulling left - even in places with left side roads.

Plus at the track - COTA especially - don't want to be fighting a right pull while braking from 140-150mph on the back straight. Sure as hell didn't have to do that in the E90 M3 - nor the 340i I just traded for this car and which also has EPS. It tracked straight and true, no pull or tendency to go right...just dead straight ahead. As it is now, let go of the wheel at 80 and it goes right immediately, Did it once at a little over 100 on the tollway and it was scary how bad the pull was if you let loose of the wheel at that speed. Dangerous is more like it. Any car designed for the Autobahn should not do anything like that since cruising 100-120 is sort of the norm. |

Then they seemed to have fixed it with a wheel straighten and after the 5th alignment and it was fine for a couple hundred miles, but slowly started pulling again, which is when my SA and the sales manager suggested I engage BMW NA...so here we are. Baffling honestly! |

So I am kind of confused with my car but wanted to give an update to my initial post in case anyone has any input or more experience. So last Friday on my commute to work is when I first experienced this sharp pull to the right. I wanted replicate this on my commute this morning so I can be prepared to demonstrate this to the SA when I bring the car in for service. Taking the same route to work in the same lane around the same speeds, my car did not exhibit this sharp pull to the right this morning. The only difference I can think of is that last Friday I had the engine setting on sport + and this morning I had it on comfort so I guess my experiment with this continues on...

Quick update, parts did not come in today, so looking at least tomorrow before they redo the driver side. SA thinks it may be ready late tomorrow, we'll see

Good to know, they did the passenger side after 4 alignments, now NA recommended this so hoping it's the fix. If they get the parts first thing tomorrow it could be ready before EOD...

Car was supposed to be ready yesterday, then this morning, now pushing 3pm and still no word. Guessing the fix may not have corrected the pull.
I have to take one of my kids to an after school event here in about 30mins so will be tomorrow at the earliest. As much as I like the 535, sure would like to get my car back! |

Side note, this is one time I've actually found the BMW Connected app useful, I can see that they moved it at 7:02pm CST and according to the locator it's on the inside of the shop, which is nice...especially since it indicates it's unlocked |

Well, got the car back, drove home and it's tracking totally straight with no pull. But when I pulled in the garage and popped the glovebox to see the alignment specs(where the tech had put them the last 4 times) - should have done this up front - it was not there.
Emailed my SA and he shot it right over which was great. But now the alignment specs are totally whacked. -.39 left front, -1.2 right front. That's almost a full degree off left to right. As you can see from the bottom of the sheet, it even warns it's out of spec This may not be an issue for a non-tracked car, but that one corner is so far off - a degree of camber differential on one corner is a ton from my experience - that it will make the car hard to handle at turn-in and likely very twitchy on corner exit. SA is asking me to call NA to see what they say as this was the last fix they had. Having one corner this far off spec should not be the fix. It's like adding a ton of left toe to stop a right pull. Sure, it fixes it, but it's not a real solution. I wonder if there's a Lemon case coming... Calling them now. Last edited by AustinTrkJunkie; 03-02-2017 at 02:55 PM.. |
