Probably will have a shot of that fine cognac before bed, for medicinal purposes.

I always put the first shot into the infinity bottle, though I have slacked lately.

Got a bottle of 15yo brandy, amazing how cheap it is compared to whiskey.

Old Fashioned made from Teremana Tequila, a drip of Herradura Agave Syrup, 2 or 3 drips of Angostura orange bitters and some pinched, fresh orange peal rubbed on the inside of the glass.

Not sure I did it right, but sure was smooth!

Decided to ride the green fairy tonight... Wish me luck.

Edit: my wife and I did the whole absinthe ritual with the sugar cube and ice water.... It is very good. Scary good...

It's a slippery slope (ask the guy with 9 bottles of absinthe in his cabinet) but try something other than mansinthe. My wife and I both liked it but felt the quality of the alcohol was lacking. It was the first absinthe that gave us hangovers and I am presuming it's from the beet liquor used. Leopold Bros makes an excellent product, Pacifique is really good. St. George is interesting, my wife loves Lucid, probably the best cheaper and mass marketed brand for sure.

If you're interested in exploring I can go through my cabinet and provide some more suggestions.

The only reason I'm really down on the Mansinthe is that it's really hard to feel like shit after drinking even large quantities of absinthe because you consume so much water along with it. That's another thing to play with, ratios. We went as far as to get a graduated cylinder to dose it correctly, but after a while you know where it needs to be in the glass. For super strong absinthes we use 4.5-5-1 and for weaker (like the white ones) 3-1. You can definitely change the profile by changing the amount of water, but wouldn't go under 4-1 for the strong stuff. Also I do recommend trying without sugar, it's pretty sweet by itself. The only time I do sugar is if I order it out because it's easier to just let them do it the way they like.

Thanks for the feedback. Here (in the Quaker Commonwealth of Pennsylvania), its very hard to find. My local liquor store doesn't carry anything. I was at our lake cottage near Watkins Glenn and the Mansinthe was the only bottle they had. I actually bought it to make Sazeracs, but I was looking forward to trying the whole ritual.

There is a local distiller up who's place we love in the finger lakes that makes an Absinthe as well. It was very good, but I don't have an experienced taste yet, so I can't say if it was in the same range as anything else. krookedtusker.com

I will keep your list on me and next time I am in a state that has a decent bottle selection I'll pick up one of the ones you recommend.

I got a friend of mine some absinth from a local distillery near Watkins Glen, I think it was Obegley; he liked it. https://obegley-distillery.myshopify...the-superieure

Philly makes Vieux Carre, it's another really good one, I haven't seen it in a while so it might be gone.

There was a NY one from Delaware Phoenix, but it looks like they're gone too.

You missed the party by about 5 years, it was silly how many were out then.

Let's just say that your taste buds and mine are polar opposites.

Nothing wrong with that, though.

Going to be an "Atomic Blonde 2" coming in 2024 or soon thereafter, supposedly coming to Netflix.
