Go with the N54, better gains, more support, and several folks are already doing 400-450 easy.

However, there is just no such thing as a reliable 400-450hp N54. Just doesn't exist lol, those words don't belong in the same sentence. There is typically something big to fix or maintain every 20-30k in addition to your regular maintenance intervals. You really need a few thousand to throw down when something goes very wrong, or spend a weekend DIY and fixing it yourself, especially if this is your daily driver.

This is one of the better posts I've seen on buying a 3 series:

thanks for the advice

yeah im starting to lean more towards RWD especially if you start thinking of in the past when majority of cars used to be RWD and many people were on summer tires and they made it through the winter fine.

Yes those cars were heavier but we have stability control and around 50/50 weight distribution with the 335 so i dont think ill have to worry as much

Had the car for a week and it's fantastic.

A bit scared maintenance and things breaking but got money on the side.

As long as my turbo don't go out that's the only thing I really don't want to happen lol.

What do you mean.

AFAIK turbo is the most expensive one.

I have enough money on the side for injector, water pump or a hpfp failure.

Those parts are part of maintenance, they WILL fail.

The most expensive part that can fail is your dual clutch transmission. Or your engine. If you have the is version that is but any automatic can fail..

Turbos are a joke when ur transmission fails. Also turbos dont really fail that often.

Looks like you have a 6 speed manual so ur safer with the transmission. But id worry more about some rod bearing fail than a turbo.

I've got the 6speed and will be changing the fluid every 50k or so. Don't think that's gonna fail... same thing for the engine, they are pretty solid. Oil changes every 8-10k km and you're good.

Each and every combination has its pros and cons. Get the newest car with the lowest miles and most up to date service history in the color combination you want. That's the best advice I can give you.

The N54 will be easier to make 400hp than an N55.

The n55 is probably a little more reliable than an n54.

i vs XI? I live in Michigan, and I have an n54 with snow tires. I don't really have a problem getting around. If the roads are bad, you aren't going anywhere, anyhow.

If you get a rwd car, run snow tires on it and are not satisfied, you can always add an LSD differential to it. An LSD is better in snow.

Unless u also like launching do not get the xi. Seeing as ur MT as well im assuming you wont be. In that case get the RWD, ull thank ur wallet later down in the road too cuz XI's are a pain to work on. I have a RWD in toronto i actually look forward to winter cuz its so fun on the turns. XI would not be "that kind of fun".
