I would say it is more your seals, with "White Smoke", which indicates under fuel, or excess Air Situation.

Only go with the B58 if you live somewhere thats cool year round. These engines have major heat issues if you live anywhere the sun is out. Down where I live these engines are always having issues in the summer. Plus its made in Mexico

Enzo is able to clear the code, but it just shows back up after two minutes. We're thinking of clearing the code right before they read it and see what happens. If not the SA has talked to BMW and they're suggesting new DME to reinstate warranty.

Having two DMEs may do the trick? One DME for mods and one for dealership visits. Cost a lot for sure...

I have N55 out of warranty but I only have jb4!

There are guys here that are running 100% increase in power on the N55 (stage 2 turbos/meth/racegas etc...) and so far from them, they have no problems. They might be limited by transmission, but we have yet to see a blown one.

The N20/N26 you may have to get it custom forged as I haven't really seen them on the market at all, people don't generally tune the N20/N26 engines much and there's no demand for it. They are cars normally mass produced for the public to get good gas mileage and have a bit of fun in. Which is why once I got bored of my 328i, I did some research about tuning and found out that it wasn't worth tuning the 28i as you'll start blowing motors and stuff and I didn't want to spend 15,000$ replacing a motor, so I traded it in for a 335i and recently just got FBO (minus intercooler) and it's absolutely great, especially since I dropped almost a full second from my quarter mile. (stock with MPPK, I ran 13.3-13.5, FBO ran 12.6-12.8, weather depending.)
I have seen 2 instances in forums of people with Blown n55/n54 but these cars were very heavily modded with pretty much everything you can do to them. Not just FBO or with Tune--there are thousands of people with that and no issue. I think one guy posted here a while back and on N54tech. And lot's of these guys are pushing their cars hard as well.

Hahaha the SA said about $2200 so not really cheap. Having two DME's would be great. I think Dinan is trying to make whole ECU's that you can just switch out.

so if you spend $2200 on a DME, you can get your warranty back? how does this work?

Not quite sure on this yet I'll let you know soon though. From what I assume it's because there's a DME code 201xxxx that says there's tampering. This is what's preventing me from getting warranty work done on my car. If I can remove this code then effectively I retain warranty?

B58 has a water to air inter cooler much like the M3 does. This is a big step up from the air intercooler in the N55. I would guess there is not heat soak issue on the new B58. I will test this out in the following weeks.

I know for a fact that the S55 with a water to air inter cooler does not heat soak even in the summer with a jb4,

I've been saying this for some time with flash tunes. Don't think you can jail break your dme and then make a warranty claim after. Save the flash map for when you are out of warranty!

If BMW NA has already rejected the car, I fail to see how simply swapping out the DME will solve the problem. It would be absolutely mindboggling that they would not retain records of data tied to the VIN. In other words, I just dont see the following happening:

May 2016 - VIN #BMW328I12345 - Engine timing chain issue, Claim rejected, DME reports code: 201xxxx

June 2016 - VIN #BMW328I12345 - Engine timing chain issue - Claim approved.

+1. Seems like false information for something that is unknown at this point.

Got my car back with the new DME. Powertrain warranty is reinstated because the car has barely any miles on it and no other existing problems or modifications.

Thinking of just trading this car in for a M235 soon but not quite sure what to do with the DME that has Enzo's tune on it. Can you still do EWS alignment to pair an ECU with a new car/vin? If so and anyone wants this DME with the tune, shoot me a PM and we can work it out.

You'll be better off getting the M235i. Much more mod friendly and produces more power.
