According to BMW records, my hpfp wasn't replaced before I bought it, and hasn't been replaced under my ownership since. I did have the dealership (non-BMW) put a clause in the purchase contact stating they would pay for my first hpfp replacement. Haven't had a problem yet. Build date of 03/2010.

$800 US is ok... my total can be seen if you click on the link in my signature block.

Thanks for the links.

For a little background, this is is where I'm coming from: http://forum.e46fanatics.com/showthread.php?t=1061336

So wrenching is not an issue. I'm concerned about big time stuff that is not really DIY when one has a full time job.

For preventative maint, I change the oil at about every 8k miles, using a good Euro Mobil. I DIY most everything I can, avoid dealerships at all costs. Dozhdbog has a long list, but most are regular maintenance things that you would have to do to just about any hi-mileage car.

The walnut blast at 101k miles showed very little build-up compared to an N54 engine. I had it done anyway, even though it probably really didn't need it.

Your best sites for maintenance and parts are realoem.com, bavauto.com and ecstuning.com - there are many others, but these are my favorites... also if you are looking at a particular car to buy, the VIN decoder at www.bmwarchive.org/vin/bmw-vin-decoder.html
