Yes the 60/40 spit is there. But there is no latching or hinging mechanism that I can find. So it is effectively a fixed 60/40 seat.

My dealer has been great to work with. Hey, I got the first delivery in the US. What more needs to be said. And I'm not sure I can tell you what else they did for me.

Seems pretty clear the US will not get 60/40 fold down rear seats. There is no mention of this "option" on the order sheet or bmwusa.com, and BMW is pretty thorough in listing everything in their spec sheets.

Markets like the UK are getting this option so all the seats are probably made the same and then they neglect to install the mechanics for fold-down in cars going to the US.

This defect in addition to the missing Homelink controls just pushed me back towards the M3 side of the fence. I was looking for more daily driver capabilities in my 1M.

Given my dealer's allocations, at least I have another 6 months to decide.

I have to say the lack of a functional 60:40 fold down seat and absence of homelink is pretty lame. Hard to understand why such basic things are not available in a 50K car.

Manual vs. Auto Seats

Interesting to hear from the seats. I asked my dealer if the manual seats had the EXACT same functions as the electric ones and he said yes. Since I don't care for electric seats I did not get them, but I will change if what you think is true!

Anyone with more funded info on this topic?
I opted for the manual seats since I'm the only driver of my car. I figured I'd set them and leave them alone. Unfortunately, I didn't consider passengers... it's really frustrating watching them push and pull on different levers and try to force the seat into position. Next time I'm definitely opting for the automatic seats!

Where in SoCal are You? Would you consider a show-n-tell somewhere for fellow Addicts to see it in the flesh? Been dying to see a real one before commiting to it. AW is my favorite color too.

It's not a deal killer but this is my main car. I am wondering if the csars with heated seats have the traditional fold down seats that come with what used to be called the Cold weather package. I'm grasping at straws.

I have every option including heated seats but no fold down seat.

I am in Orange County. I plan to bring the car to Cars and Coffee in Irvine next Saturday. I think someone who is picking up a black 1M this week plans to be there as well.

It seems like at least one 1M option package would contain a homelink. But I put "flash2pass" on my 128i after passing on the package with it for my car and am very happy. It's about $100 and when you are done, you tap your high beam switch twice and your garage door opens. Hands can stay on the wheel. To install you put the reciever where your button is inside the garage (it still functions as the button) and install a small black module under the hood wired to a ground and the high beam circuit. Very minor installation job.

I have all the options and no homelink. It is part of the rearview mirror so I am pretty sure it can be added by replacing the mirror. I will check with the parts department this week.

Funny how that works huh, even with all of the tuning possibilities of the 1M.

It seems European models get a fold down 60:40 rear seat, while North American models do not. Perhaps this could be retrofitted on U.S. models?

Lack of homelink is not a huge issue, but just seems silly.

If you can't fold down the back seats, that lessens a lot of the "practicality" of a 1M over smaller sportier cars like a Porsche. I really like the option of seating 4 (albeit for short hauls) and definitely having fold down seats in the 1er so I can stash my road bicycle in the back. Nevertheless 1M is still an amazing car for the price...

That is a bit disappointing that the rear seats don't fold down... oddly reminiscent of the E30 M3 with it's fixed rear seat.

Real OEM suggests the U.S. version has the appropriate hardware. Guess it must be wrong.

These 2 omissions just seem silly. Maybe this one was finished out on a Friday.

Homelink fix - garage door opener on visor (so 1995!) - Really, is this a big deal?
Rear seat fix - don't know yet but I bet it's easy. Heck, it's probably a hinge and 2 simple locking mechanisms.

Thanks for the review. My AW should be arriving in the next day or 2 so this thread is keeping me from forgetting it.

+1 on the door opener... that's a no brainer...
I have to think the hardware for the seat can't be too expensive... the handles for fold down operation on Euro cars are under the rear decklid.... obtaining the latches and hinges shouldn't be too hard?
