Reasoning
1. optioned them up and about 10k difference. After resale the turbo will probably be cheaper.

2. Keep unload Macan S. When I do that I ask why deprive myself from the driving experience when I don't have to and for the same $$ the SQ5 seems more value. If I don't go PTV, SC, PASM, I feel it's on par with the SQ5 and GLK45.

Route #2 just confuse me further...

Fair points. In our case a 2 mile daily commute, occasional long highway trips and a larger price differential w desired options just couldn't justify the Turbo. Both great cars, can't go wrong with either IMO. Just depends what you're looking to accomplish.

Thanks. Sounds like my Z4M coupe, but I'm sure the M is more stiff (and not my DD).

Totally personal preference but I'm not a fan of porches styling.

I think BMW's M division honestly makes the best daily drivers / fun cars in the world for the money.

Just my opinion. M4 is my dream car. But I've really been looking at that M2

I have a buddy who has a 2013 911, it is a great drivers car but I can't imagine driving it daily. I am pretty sure the M2 will be easier to live with but the 911 is hell of a car.

Interesting. I was thinking about adding a used 991 (non S) as a DD in a reasonable price point to my list.

I drive 50ish miles a day and really can't justify the extra cost of the turbo. Hell, for that matter I can't really justify any of the higher end performance options. You just don't need sport plus and the air suspension for a DD. I spent the money on comfort and styling.

Be sure to get the roof rails, you can't retrofit.

Roof rails and body color side blades or whatever they are called is also a must.

IMO all the 911s at dealer are priced nothing less than BS in Canada. I had a 2012 997 6 speed and really enjoyed it. However, like many will agree, it's still not the most practical car to use as DD if you compare that the the M2. I recently put down my deposit for M2 and hopefully it'll come next spring. It'll be a pretty pair with my X5.

Yeah the dealers off course have pricing through roof on these cars....but now that on verge of colder weather seeing price drops...The opposite must occur come spring. Doing my home work on these cars I have found that a)they are awesome car to drive...handling and also in sense exclusivity as not many on road ...at least around here. However they maybe very expensive to maintain and if something goes out of warranty to be prepared to spend big $$ (but if car low milage and looked after with right records should not be issue). Also may have jarring ride over bumps not much storage . And to drive in winter even with snow tires may not be advise able. However searching rennlist plenty seem to do it no issue. This is interesting debate for me but I am in no hurry plenty of time...and also get to see where pricing of m2 will go here in canada and also after dust settles on availability after initial scramble by all to get one first. My 228i is still no slouch which I can still live with for time being.

I have been watching Canadian and TO prices on autotrader for a full year now. I've seen prices drop over winter by $7k for some cars and then bump back up in March. I've seen one guards red c4s sit for about 4 months from fall until the start of spring. At that time it bumped up for a brief period and then was lowered back and was gone fairly quickly. Winter is definitely the time to buy.

If the pricing for an m2 creeps up ( not just MSRP, but all the PDI, freight etc all in ), then it may be good to look for a 997.2 911s/c4s for about $70k CAD. I remember last year I saw a few going for ~$74k with less than 50k km on it.

997 all the way !

As a former owner of 3 Porsches (944 Turbo, Boxster S and 911 Turbo) I can tell you that if you want to go real fast, go for the 997 (no bloody speed limiter). For a limited speed DD go with the M2. But even if it is supposed to be a high performance car it will be limited to only 250 Km/h, what a shame for such a car !!!

BMW, with their ridiculous speed limiter on high performance cars…

If you can handle the lack of storage space go for the 997.2 I've owned 2 of them, they are spectacular cars. When you tire of the lack of space you'll size up

I was also in the same situation. I was looking at a 997.2 Coupe S and really loved it, but when the BMW M2 came out, I could not resist. I have driven a BMW 1M, and this car is so much fun to drive: stiff chassis, incredible performance and amazing braking power. I can only imagine the BMW M2 to be as good or even better.

The M2 will also be fully equipped and it will cost the same as a BMW 1M fully loaded in 2011!

I agree ! I was ready to go for a M235i, so I used the BMW.ca configurator to simulate its price if equipped exactly like the M2. Surprise, it was only $4K less (for a 6MT) than the M2, so I decided to brake my Piggy Bank and I'll order my M2 next Monday afternoon (my appointement with my BMW sales rep is already settled)! It will be a LLB one with the DCT. I like the 6MT too, but I have to admit that I'm not as good as I would like to be with a 6MT... Wisdom is sometimes to know our weaknesses...

My only concern with the M2 is its ridiculous 250 Km/h speed limiter. What a shame for such a car ! That's a good point for Porsche, they don't bother with speed limiters... Porsche understood long time ago that when you pay, you decide ! Unfortunately, so far BMW didn't !

Well, I did own a 1M also, made a sidestep to a 981 Cayman GTS, a good car as it is I`ve never liked the thin steering wheel and steering characteristics also the seats (sportseats+) are not in the same league as the 1M seats, they don`t look as nice as the Porsches, but have far more better adjustments and support !! Everybody overhere has complaints how the M2 seats are looking, but that is not the point, it is how they support, they will be excellent !!

So I took the plunge, sold the GTS and ordered the M2, happy to be back again. The M2 is indeed fully loaded and is cheaper then my previous 1M !!

Good choice on the M2. No need to complain about the top speed limiter...Ever heard of " coding "! ? It's for those that seek the wisdom to know their weaknesses

FYI, the Porsche 997s (911s for that matter) are some of the easiest cars to change Oil on....just buy your 9 qts of Mobil 1 and a filter kit....done within an hour.
I have a 997.1 DD, only put it away in the snow....hate the salt on my baby
