I understand what your saying - but I was waiting for my partner to serve in this instance.

I would hand signal my block and then prop over on my knees waiting for the serve...

...and it was like 100 degrees, so yea - I was TIRED by the end of the 8 hour day of playing VB

I miss playing VB. We had a sand court in the back yard for a long time. Many hours out there in the summer.

I played VB for a living the first 2 years out of college....spent many weekends in Tampa and Jacksonville FL

I believe you mentioned that your wife is a runner...?

Heres a pic of me from college running a 10k. The guy running with me was a real asshole. We were about a full minute ahead of the pack at this point in the race. I won the race, sub 29 minute if I recall correctly...

I ran a couple marathons back in the day - pee'd blood for about a week after the first one...

We would do repeat mile interval training with non-resting recoveries toward the end of XC season...It was BRUTAL

Hey. I wasn't a fitness guy.
I was a sports guy. ALthough I could only do 1 pull ups, 10 pushups, and 45situps during my peak during school, I STILL played sports for school.
People do not believe me when I tell em that I use to do 1-2 pullup at most at that time.
Now, I can't even do 1 pushup! hahahaha.

2.4 mile swim in 1:29 - Passed a girl who looked like she was drowning and past life guard experience kicked in and she pulled her out of the "piranhas" and held her up until a boat picked the girl up. Normal IM swim for her is 1:10-1:15.

112 mile bike in 5:20 - 21mph average

26.2 mile run in 5:01 - Something like an 11:30 min mile. Heat and humidity are not her friends when running.

Finished 23 of 89 in age group, 78 of 643 women, and 528 of 2980 total participants.

Clearly she's no runner. The bike is her natural strong point. I think she had the 6th or 7th fastest bike split of all females.

To hell with those Ultra runners. That shit is crazy. No reason to pour blood out of your shoes when you're only half way done with a race.

Running is tough for speed over distance....form plays a MAJOR role in efficiency.

I'd always tell the younger runners, "smooth is fast"

At the end of the day - it's about god given foot speed though...

Yep. I was just telling someone that i wish we had smart phones, digital cameras, go-pros back then. Some cool shit would have been archived.

I should be dead many times over. But i'm really surprised that i don't even have any killer X-rays to share. Worst i've done is a hairline fracture in the ankle. Well, probably the most lingering was getting fingers and hands caught up in the controls of a dirt bike when going down. Bent thumbs all around, one of those joints is still somewhat misshapen. haha. Good times! .... BEST times!!

ALL she's been doing is working on running, mostly form. This past race she dropped 42 min off her previous IM run. She's stoked.

That was the 1st surgery...I had 2 full thickness tears (mid ligament). My right arm was at 90 degrees for 6 weeks because they had to shorten the ligament and re-attach. You see in the surgery pic the anchor being inserted (bottom right). I actually played another 6 years after that repair


I have another (different) detached ligament in the same shoulder that is causing issues now. It will also require surgery to re-attach, but will only be scope this round.
